Triumph Daytona 600 motorcycle test

Menus

The wild stallion

Triumph daytona 600With
the commercial failure of his 600 TT (and yet it was
an excellent GT-Sport cf. test)
and its first sporty 4-cylinder, Triumph has redesigned its motorcycle
and invested in an entirely new engine to offer a
new version now rivaling the Japanese.

In the end, the Dayto 600 is the battle hypersport of the English brand
with its 112 horses (in free version) for only 165 kilos.

Discovery

The Daytona 600 is second to none with a mix
of curves and straight lines, as if cut with a billhook,
a complete break with the curves of the TT. Triumph daytona 600Her
plain yellow livery makes it noticed from afar without repeating
the more garish decorations of the Japanese.

Its frontal optics and especially its air intake are reminiscent of
a mocking face. From a distance, nothing would suggest that this is a
600. You can even easily think of a 750.

Looking closely, the finish is neat and the bike
sweats very "British" care.

In the saddle

Faced with a ZX-6R that gives the impression of a mini motorcycle, the Daytona
gives the impression of fat. If the frame is the same as the TT,
the shape of the tank has been improved
and suddenly the knees no longer hit the frame. Suddenly, the motorcycle tightens
perfectly and in a very pleasant way.

The position is sporty but less tilted to the front than one
might believe. And as a duo, we even have the impression that the weight
wears on the back more than normal, giving the impression that
the Dayto is always ready to pitch up.

With a saddle 5 mm higher, the feet just touch the ground by
against for the 1.70 m pilot.

The mirrors offfer a good field of vision regardless of
the position.

The instrumentation is standard Triumph, half digital, half analog with
a red zone at 14,000 rpm, and the traditional tachometers,
partial double trip, watch and thermometer; we regret on the other hand
the absence of a fuel gauge, the warnings. We are going very
good shift-light but we would appreciate a system with
coded key on the other hand, as with some competitors.

Contact

The 4-cylinder growls, with an idle set to 1800 rpm.
Is the pot really approved? In any case, it clearly does
talk about him !

Clutch, start … It’s very vigorous! Second,
third … the handle requires control and dosage
precise with a first cool kiss effect from 4,000 rpm.
This new version is undeniably more filled with
mid-range compared to the TT. And as in first
and second, it happens quickly, you must not open too wide too quickly.

The Dayto turns out to be very, very light
and gives the impression of a real bicycle. This lightness
surprises especially with regard to the exterior appearance
imposing. But with only 165 kg, it is among the lightest
and this is confirmed even more in the saddle.

City

Triumph daytona 600Which
said that sportswomen were unlivable in town? Light
and manoeuvrable, the Dayto sneaks in everywhere. It just becomes a little more
hard in traffic jams, with a position resting on the wrists and
a bit hard clutch.

On the other hand, she resumed without flinching in 5th at 2000 laps and
thus reveals particularly flexible, even
compared to its predecessor. It is not at all necessary
to climb the towers to make her run seriously and
it actually drives on a trickle of gas if necessary.
And yet the maximum torque is only reached at 11,000 rpm !

Highway

If the Daytona is already proving violent on
the first reports and under 4,000 rpm, it becomes squarely
explosive above 8,000 rpm.

So when the highway arrives, the Dayto soars like a bullet.
At 200 km / h, it is still only 11,000 rpm, at 3,000
rpm of the red zone, and the solicitation of the handle leaves
consider an unusable power reserve on the open road
anyway.

Departmental

The Dayto is piloted. It is perfectly neutral but does not help
no time the pilot. So do not hesitate to
push a little to place it. As many 600 hypersport forgive
and easily give the impression of being an exceptional pilot,
the Dayto does not fit into this category. It refers to the pilot
his real qualities or inexperience, no more, no
less. On the other hand, the Daytona is more easily taken in hand than others
hyper-sport that require time and experience before
master them completely.

Pushed into the towers, the cycle part is revealed
irreproachable and rigorous, allowing sequences
fast curves, no surprises, no bad behavior. She does not take
so never treat his pilot.

Comfort

Triumph daytona 600The
saddle is firm but a milking of 250 km without any stopping poses
no problem … reminiscent of the extreme comfort of the TT and
surprising for a sportswoman. Even on degraded roads,
the Dayto handles well, without making the pilot look like a bullet
bouncing or having the impression of having pressed the seat
ejectable. It is reassuring and pleasant. Even some
roadsters are less comfortable than this sport … enough to knock your socks off
ideas !

The screen offers good and effective protection for the 1.70 pilot
that I am as soon as we slip behind, without generating
no swirl in the helmet.

Finally, the Daytona is not as exclusive in position as others
sports and suddenly, we can get off after several hundred
kilometers without having your body crushed with fatigue.

Braking

Braking is worthy of a sports car … both powerful and
progressive. The feeling is good at the lever and the pressure on the pedal
back also gives a good feeling.

Convenient

It accommodates a medium size lock without difficulty. He stays
still room for the tool kit, rain pants,
a coke … well, more space than some roadsters.

Duo

It started badly with the total absence of a passenger handle. Next,
the rear folding seat is one of the most
top of the category. Finally, the weight – even light
sandbag – tends to significantly lighten
front and does not give a fabulous sense of security.

Advantage of the passenger’s high position, he / she has a view
incomparable on the road.

Consumption

The injection makes people talk about it again and maintains the consumption
around 6 liters / cent, which can go up to 8 liters in use
Very athletic.

Conclusion

Triumph daytona 600The
Daytona 600 has almost become an exclusive sports car. Efficient, powerful,
light, it will delight those who want a sharp 600. The
Daytona will be reserved for experienced bikers
already having a good number of kilometers behind
them, unlike the TT which was more accessible. Of
there, to make her run on the track, there is only one step, which
can now be crossed.

And yet it retains the extreme comfort of its predecessor
TT, in the same spirit of the late Thundercat, mixing pleasure
athletic and able to swallow the kilometers … in
solo.

In any case, at "only" 8,990 euros (i.e. 1,000 euros
less than when it was launched), it is now the same
price level than the 2003 vintages of the competition and therefore
often 1000 euros less than the 2004 vintages …
offer an excellent alternative to Japanese domination with
a motorbike that cannot be found on every street corner.

  • track / road versatility
  • consumption
  • comfort (for a sportswoman)
