MV-Agusta Brutale 1078 RR 2009

The brutal one looks so mean you can hear her roar just looking at her. So to the delight of its future owners, the Italian engineers inflated its lungs to make it even more brutal! 1078RR is the name they gave it, but also the displacement that is fueling this new Italian. With a new engine, and new components optimizing its performance to the maximum, the top of the range MV leads the way in the sector of “naked” sport in Italian style. An engine entirely developed by the firm, a four-cylinder developing more than 150hp, just that. The physique of the new Brutale already announces the suit even before you insert the key. It is enough to contemplate these to dream of them day and night.
The 1078RR isn’t just a motorcycle, it’s pure interior aggressiveness. But for that you have to want it and have the temperament to ride this machine and tame its power. This exclusivity, far from the banality, will take you far to your limits. There is nothing usual about this 1078RR: life is faster, more colorful, more alive. This is a Brutale! The new engine demands even more of the suspensions and brakes in order to maintain the balance of the bike and give you that kick in the ass, all with the finesse and agility that characterize MV-Agusta.

Design side:
1078R simply means the best; The brutal at its peak. This includes the looks that stand out from it. Aside from the new dashboard, the new colourway expresses determination. Three new colors that will make this new motorcycle the top model of the parades, with its pearl white / black dress for chic evening outfits. An all-black outfit for dark and voluptuous evenings, and finally an anthracite and red silver to recall the Italian side that characterizes it, and its traditional MV sportiness. The dress of the new 1078 allows us to see the changes that have been made: new brakes, the components of the new fork, and above all the small details that help refine this work of art. That’s all that makes the difference for its owner, but also for those lucky enough to spot it. It’s the same as looking at a work of art in a museum, you come out upset.

Equipment:
The transition from the 910 to the 1078 first gives it 10% more power, which allows it to gain 15hp and 2kg more torque. Here is a small listing of the notorious developments on this Italian news:

  • Colors and stickers.
  • Graphical dashboard.
  • Suspension calibration.
  • 1078cc engine.
  • Anti-dribble clutch.
  • Resized catalysts.
  • Brembo monoblock brakes.

The main objective has been to find the right balance between the new components.

Power:
The new Brutale inherited the highest technology from MV. With its new 1078 based on the racing engine of the F4 RR 312, the new Brutale is a winner. The goal was not so much to strive for maximum performance as to tame four cylinders with a perfectly balanced stroke. It’s no easy feat when dealing with 154hp compressed to achieve a frame like the Brutale’s. The bore and valves have been increased to 79 and 55mm. The high compression ratio was maintained despite the significant increase in capacity to 1078.37cc. Maximum power has increased by 15hp, setting a new record for a Naked, with 154hp at 10700rpm. The torque has also been improved from 96Nm at 800rpm to 117Nm at 8100rpm. The removable gearbox remains unchanged, and the speed and precision with which it changes gears allows the bike to reach its top speed of 267.21km / h in no time. This performance is due to the adoption of new organs recovered on the F4 1000R. These modifications made it possible to reduce the crown of the wheel by two teeth and thus go from a 15/43 ratio to a 15/41. The EBS has been replaced with an anti-dribble clutch used on the sporty version of the F4, in an effort to provide flexibility in all that power when accelerating. MV engineers also fitted it with a new, larger exhaust catalyst to meet Euro 3 standards. The end result is smoother, smoother engine, even under heavy acceleration..
A tubular frame to respect traditions.
A simpler chrome trellis frame, it efficiently manages the power of the reconfigured engine. Like the first version of the Brutale, the 750, the frame was designed to withstand greater torsion and flexion. The geometry is the same as the previous versions. A wheelbase of 1410mm and a total length of 2020mm, for a saddle height of 101.5mm, all for a total weight of 185kg empty. The swing arm and the decoration are symbols of the technology and the originality of the brand.

Due to the introduction of new brakes and the increased horsepower of the 1078, the front fork has been modified. While respecting the comfort of the rider on the motorcycle, the travel of the latter is now 130mm. The fork type is the same as previous models, a Marzocchis 50mm inverted fork helps keep the front glued to the ground even when the operator begins to tilt the machine further. The rear shock absorber also remains the same. The suspension has been calibrated to control power.
On the braking side, the Brutale will be equipped with new Brembos, with more powerful and exclusive brakes to ensure the best braking for this monster of the road. The radial calipers are fitted in the same way as on the F4 1000. The objective of the new system is to increase the braking power and to reduce the braking distances but at the same time to decrease the amount of pressure required on the brake. brake lever and tire. With the Brembo system, this Brutale 1078R is now Italian from head to toe. The very original five-spoke star-shaped forged aluminum wheels are also Brembo, and measure 3.50 * 17 at the front, and 6 * 17 at the rear, tire sizes 120/70/17 for the ‘front and 190/55/17 for the rear will ensure outstanding stability.
To sum up, a brutal news which immediately announces the color with figures to make scream its competitors. It remains to be seen what this looks like in real life on a future test ….
