New - Suzuki takes care of its maxi-scoot 400 - Used SUZUKI

The first maxi-scooter to land in France in 1998, the Burgman had until today only had the right to retouch. But the competition ended up making Suzuki react, which revised its copy more in depth. Presentation.

Leader in the sector of large "Touring" scooters, Suzuki is about to see its status threatened by particularly sharp 2006 novelties, Honda Silverwing 400 (read our) and Piaggio X8 400 in the lead. Not to mention the arrival of the future Peugeot Satelis 250 and 500 in the wake of the already promising 125 (read)…

In order to remain attractive, the Suzuki Burgman 400 (1,207 units sold in the last 12 months) therefore had to undergo major modifications, starting with its design..

Its rear part is refined, but its 62 l trunk can accommodate two full-face helmets. Three storage spaces – the largest of which has a capacity of 10 l – are located under the handlebars. Those in a hurry will appreciate the pivoting opening of the storage compartments, more practical than against the handlebars. Also note the cut in the floor which frees the pilot’s calves from the usual shear. Finally, its dynamic appearance is enhanced by the side air intakes which underline the new double optic.

The Burgman 400 also inherits a new engine block: its displacement is slightly greater than the old model – from 385 to 399.9 cc for more square dimensions: 81 x 71.6 mm – and it is now equipped with a double overhead camshaft.

However, the gain in power is not so convincing: the new Burgman goes only from 32 hp (at 8,000 rpm) to 34 hp (at 7,500 rpm) but gains 1/2 mkg of torque to reach 3.7 mkg at 6,000 rpm. The recoveries should therefore be significantly improved.

Japanese engineers have also been far-sighted by equipping their scooter with a second disc at the front, mounted on a wheel that goes from 13 to 14 inches for "behavior always closer to that of a motorcycle", assures Suzuki.

Likewise, the tire sizes have been increased (120/80 at the front and 150/70 at the rear against 110/90 and 130/70 respectively previously) while the fuel tank goes from 13 to 14 liters, history of strengthening the driving skills of the maxi-scoot.

Available today in dealerships, the Suzuki Burgman 400 is available in black, silver or blue at a price of € 6,299 keys (with coded immobilizer!) In hand.
