New - Yamaha USA strengthens its custom range with the Bolt - Used YAMAHA

The American subsidiary of Yamaha has added two new models to its custom range (called "Star" in the USA): the Bolt and its more "sporty" version, the Bolt R-Spec. Sober and elegant, these two 942 cc models are a seductive alternative to the unmissable Harley-Davidson Iron 883… But perhaps only…

The American subsidiary of Yamaha has added two new models to its custom range (called "Star" in the USA): the Bolt and its more "sporty" version, the Bolt R-Spec. Sober and elegant, these two 942 cc models are an attractive alternative to the unmissable Harley-Davidson Iron 883… But perhaps only in the United States !

New (beautiful) with (not too) old !

Discovered during Daytona Bike Week in Florida, this new Bolt range gives a facelift to Yamaha’s custom range thanks to an elegant line and unadorned fittings..

Forget the chrome galore and the "glitter" in force on some Japanese models: despite some coquetry imprints of modernism (petal discs, meter circled in chrome and backlit in blue, LED taillight), the Bolt plays the card sobriety.

Very inspired by that of a Harley-Davidson Iron 883, its silhouette appears more compact than that of the XVS950 Midnight Star from which it takes over the engine and the double steel cradle frame.

Reworked in terms of injection to improve mid-range speeds, the 942 cc liquid-cooled v-twin is responsible for moving the 245 kg all full made of this 2014 novelty via a final belt transmission.

Compressed to 9.0: 1, this twin-cylinder, open at 60 °, develops 54 hp at 6,000 rpm and 76.8 Nm of torque at 3,000 rpm on the Midnight Star (values not given on the Bolt). The distribution of big kicks to the foundation is therefore not one of its main qualities, but its flexibility and availability allow you to "ride" the bandana in the wind, without having to frequently resort to its five-speed gearbox..

Less heavy than a Midnight Star (278 kg all full) and the Iron 883 (260 kg in running order), the Yamaha Bolt therefore seems to claim a more "sporty" approach. An even more advanced philosophy on its variation equipped with shock absorbers combined with nicely anodized separate cylinders, the Bolt "R-Spec" (see the photo gallery below).

The Bolt releases new twelve spoke rims on which Bridgestones in 100/90/19 and 150/80/16 are fitted (same sizes as on the H-D Iron 883). Thanks to this pneumatic mount with "reasonable" dimensions, the low seat height (69 cm) and its shorter wheelbase than on the Midnight Star (1567 mm against 1685 mm), this small custom should be relatively easy to take. in hands.

On the other hand, the choice of a tank capacity equivalent to that of the Iron 883 (12.1 liters against 12.5 liters for the H-D and 17 liters on the Midgnight Star 950!) May upset some …

And the French bikers, then ?

Contacted by Site, Yamaha Motor France has for the moment no information to transmit about the importation of these models in France. As an indication, on the official Yamaha USA website, the Bolt is announced for the month of April at 7,990 dollars (approximately 6,145 €) and 8,290 dollars (approximately 6,375 €) for the R-Spec.
