The auction house Catawiki is currently auctioning a Vincent Black Shadow HRD 1000 Seried D. The auction will end on November 1, 2016 at 8 pm; According to an estimate by the expert John Searle, the value of the motorcycle is between 110,000 and 145,000 euros.
Tea VIncent Black Shadow was produced between 1949 and 1955. From the last series ("Series D") only 144 copies were made. This makes the 1955 Vincent Black Shadow HRD 1000 Series D offered by Catawiki an absolute rarity for collectors.
In the 1940s and 1950s, Vincent motorcycles in general, and the Black Shadow models in particular, were considered the ultimate. The racing driver Roland has become famous "Rollie" Free, who, lying on a motorcycle and only wearing a helmet, shoes and swimming trunks, set the speed record of over 240 km / h – with a Vincent engine, of course.
The engine number F 10 AB 2B 107XX and the frame number front and rear RD126XXB are considered to be "Matching Numbers".
The Vincent Black Shadow HRD 1000 Series D develops 45 kW (55 PS) from a 998 cm³ V2 engine, has covered 125 kilometers since its restoration, is ready to drive and comes with Swedish papers. The provider assures that it can also arrange for approval in Germany.
