News - Kawasaki KX250F and KX450F ready to jump! - ... and the hole shot for the KX450F!

Electronic injection on cross-country models has become a constant … Kawasaki is therefore innovating by fitting out its KX250F with a double injector and by equipping its KX450F with a starting assistance system and three engine maps.. Presentations.

… and the hole shot for the KX450F !

The big sister of the KX250F does not benefit from double injection but also benefits from a world first, ensures Kawasaki: "as on factory machines, the "Launch Control" mode increases the chances of a good start on slippery terrain where it optimizes traction" !

The method is simple: "by delaying the ignition timing, Launch Control mode allows the rear tire to regain grip in low traction conditions". To activate it, the pilot just has to keep the Launch Control button pressed for at least two seconds:"an indicator light next to the button then starts to flash rapidly to confirm to the pilot the activation of the mode"… and the hole shot is guaranteed !

This technical advance is made possible by the adoption of a new electronic control unit. In addition to this restricted mode for departures, this "ECU" has three other engine maps selectable from the handlebars depending on the conditions..

For the most advanced riders, Kawasaki offers an optional KX FI calibration kit allowing these three modes to be reprogrammed (a PC and a 12 V battery will also be necessary for handling).

The mechanics also receive their share of updates: "modifications to the piston, cams and exhaust widen the power curve and increase performance at high and low revs", specify the Greens.

Like the "two-fifty", the "four-fifty" offers a more pleasant selection and softer rear suspension link bodies. The recoveries at the exit of the bends would therefore be better than with the 2011 model (read) ?

In order to further improve traction, the Greens have revised the perimeter aluminum frame: its rigidity has been modified, as has its width. Now narrower, the 2012 frame would simultaneously offer better ergonomics.

Kawasaki has also worked on this point: the handlebars are adjustable in four positions and the footrests on two! Whether you are small or large, light or "just wrapped up", nervous or cool, champion in the making or simple amateur: the KX450F promises to adapt to all pilots and all styles.

The experts will also have noticed by examining the data sheet of the new KX450F (available on the following pages) that the 450 borrows its front tire from the 250: the 90 / 100-21 gives way to an 80 / 100-21 lighter by 150 g.

Likewise, the new pattern of the front disc allows a weight loss – precious because not suspended – of 80 grams. The capacity of the tank goes from 7 to 6.2 liters: a decrease compensated according to the Akashi Ninjas by the gain in handling – because it is lighter – and the better grip of the machine – because it is less bulky.

Finally, like the 250, the KX450F is adorned with a devastating "factory" look, a few touches of blue and a more enduring saddle. All that remains is to discover the prices of these first two new Kawasaki 2012 models as well as their release dates (usually at the start of the school year): stay tuned !
