New Honda Vision scooter: it’s already 2012 !
Honda has just unveiled its first novelty for 2012 which will hit our streets at the end of summer 2011: the Vision scooter. Replacing the Lead 110, this new small scooter intends to satisfy the maximum number of people, even the whole world. ! Presentation.
Honda Vision: it’s already 2012 !
Honda begins the presentation of the concept of its new small scooter with these few words: "Across the world, urban scooters are all different in personality, shape or design. Which implies that it is extremely rare to find a model that meets the needs of users on a global scale.".

But in France, the country of the GT scooter par excellence, the world number one has not succeeded in imposing its S-Wing. On the other hand, Honda found in the PCX a very convenient product, capable of seducing both Thais – Thailand is its country of origin -, Asians in general … but also these sacred French commuters !
In 2012, the winged brand therefore hopes to achieve another nice coup with its latest scooter called "Vision", made in China..
"Designed from the outset to offer comfort and practicality at a very competitive price, the new Vision combines the timeless qualities of ease of use and reliability with modern solutions such as fuel injection or the braking system CBS handset, all forming a safe and affordable package, able to appeal to a new generation of consumers", continues the manufacturer.
One world, one Vision ?
If it is our duty to moderate the words of the brands – in this case the PGM-FI injection and CBS braking were already present on the 2008 Lead 110 that the Vision replaces … -, we also need recognize their efforts and successes !
In this case, Honda wanted to offer a scooter that is light, accessible, practical, safe, fuel efficient and affordable … And the first objectives seem to have already been achieved..
Thus, the Vision weighs only 102 kg all full facts against 114 kg for "fire" the Lead 110, 136 kg for the SH125i and 156 kg for the S-Wing! With its seat height limited to 755 mm, its flat and thin floor, its reduced wheelbase (1255 mm) and its upright driving position, the Vision promises to be easy to tame..
On the practical side, the new little Honda has two compartments in the apron – but those of its ancestor could be locked … – and a storage space under the saddle that can accommodate a jet "at least, maybe a full but it’s to be checked", comments Honda France which has not yet received a copy.
Lightweight, easy, practical…
The Japanese specify that "two hooks have been placed on either side of the saddle to secure helmets and leave the main compartment free for other items".
Behind the two-seater saddle is also a luggage rack – aluminum, Te Kudasai! – allowing the installation of an optional top-case on which the passenger can comfortably settle. The latter also benefits from retractable footrests: as on a CBR1000RR Fireblade !
But "to remain accessible to as many people as possible, Honda has developed an industrial strategy aimed at retaining the best supplier, wherever they are in the world", explains the Tokyo giant. The cycle part is therefore not in the daze…
Tubular steel frame, small hydraulic telescopic fork and eccentric rear shock absorber mounted on the powertrain: classic! On the other hand, the new Vision scooter benefits from some Honda specificities such as combined braking.
The left lever therefore controls both the front 220 mm disc and the 130 mm rear drum, while the right lever controls only the front disc..
Likewise, the 108 cc single cylinder exactly (4-stroke single-shaft, 2-valve, air-cooled) probably derived from the Lead block is still fitted with PGM-FI electronic injection. It naturally respects the Euro 3 standard, as well as other stricter standards applied abroad.
The Japanese engineers would have carried "special care in reducing friction": no gain in performance – it’s even the reverse, it delivers 0.55 hp and 0.6 Nm to the Lead -, but the average consumption would not exceed 2 l / 100km (50.2 km / liter precisely).
Enough to travel about 275 km with a full tank, since the tank contains 5.5 liters of fuel. Lead owners will have noted in passing the "evaporation" of a liter of gasoline compared to their current scooter, due to the presence on the Vision of wheels significantly higher than those of its predecessor: 14 inches at the front and rear, compared to 12 at the front and 10 at the rear previously.
The Vision should gain both in stability – we will have to check that during our test – and in look – even if naturally Site lets its readers make up their own mind on this subject. In the editorial staff of the Journal moto du Net, we prefer in any case the more stocky and almost sporty aspect of the PCX…
… and not expensive !
Available towards the end of August 2011, the Honda Vision will be imported into France in three colors: pearl black "Procyon", metallic gray "Boss" or pearl white. "Red was not selected because we know from experience that in France only black, white, silver or titanium scooters are popular.", says Sebastien Pernel, press manager at Honda Moto France..
Still unknown today, the price of the next Honda scooter promises to be attractive: "it will be lower than that of the PCX (€ 2,440 currently, Editor’s note), and slightly higher than that of the old Lead(2000 € approximately, Editor’s note) ", Honda France tells us for the moment.
Finally, the manufacturer reports that "the versatility of the Vision can be improved by fitting optional specific accessories developed by Honda Access Europe":
- Honda alarm: electronic system with shock detector and 95 dB siren.
- U-lock: robust with reinforced lock.
- Top-case: to be installed directly on the original luggage rack. Holds two jet helmets or a full face helmet.
- Top case bag: A4 size in black nylon with Honda logo, front pocket and adjustable shoulder strap. Expandable from 15 to 25 liters.
- High windshield: made of polycarbonate.
- Hand deflectors: two injected polycarbonate elements to improve protection.
- Outer cover: waterproof and breathable, also protects against UV rays. With adjustment cord and hole for fitting a U-lock.
- Apron: Made of sturdy black waterproof fabric, with zipper and saddle protector.
