New Indian motorcycle: Always Scout !

News - New Indian motorcycle: always Scout! - Used INDIAN

Besides the luxurious new Roadmaster, Indian revealed to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally audience its second novelty for 2015: the Scout. The American manufacturer, owned by the Polaris group, is giving a great boost to the career of one of its most emblematic models, produced from 1919 to 1949.

In addition to the luxury, Indian revealed to the public of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally its second novelty for 2015: the Scout. The American manufacturer, owned by the Polaris group, is giving a great boost to the career of one of its most emblematic models, produced from 1919 to 1949.

The new Scout will always be ready to cruise in style !

Unveiled by Indian after World War I, the Scout was then an entry-level motorcycle powered by a 600cc v-twin. Well born, it meets a great success, in particular with the armed forces which appreciate its reliability and by many competitors attracted by its performances..

It was on the handlebars of a vintage 1920 prepared by him that the famous Burt Monroe won, at the age of 68, a speed record on the salt lake of Bonneville (Utah – USA) in 1967.

A (beautiful) story staged in 2005 in the film "The world’s fastest Indian", with the excellent Anthony Hopkins in the role of Munro.

In short, the Scout played a major role in writing the most beautiful pages in the long history of the American manufacturer, whose beginnings date back to 1901, two years before Harley … No wonder, therefore, that Indian is relaunching this model 95 years (!) later, at a time when the manufacturer takes advantage of the – solid – support of the Polaris group to return to the front of the motorcycle scene.

Stylistically inspired by the original model, particularly in terms of its lowered line at the rear, its enveloping mudguards or the round front headlight with black cowling, the 2015 Scout is undoubtedly well designed. Its proportions are harmonious despite its dimensions (2311 mm long) while its build quality exudes seriousness.

Its patinated tan-colored leather saddle, its long chromed stacked mufflers or the worked reliefs of its casings: each part of the bike seems impeccably installed and cut from high-quality materials. Completely new, the Scout releases an engine block as well as a new chassis: its propulsion is provided by a water-cooled V-twin of 1133cc, installed in a modern aluminum frame..

Perfectly assuming its cooling mode, this brand new engine (the second designed by Indian in just two years with the that equips them and) does not seek, as is customary in the category, to hide its imposing radiator or to deceive the untrained eye with a profusion of fins. No subterfuge for the Scout, the tone is set !

Powerful engine and modern chassis

And its tone, precisely, seems very promising according to the video presentation below, just like its performances. Indian announces 100 hp and 98 Nm of torque, frankly high values for this kind of motorcycles. As the Scout is relatively light (244 kg dry), its dynamic behavior could encourage sport cruising.

Equipped with a non-adjustable telescopic fork and combined shock absorbers adjustable in preload in quite inclined position, the new Indian appears on the other hand more sparingly equipped in terms of braking: a simple 298 mm disc clamped by a 2-piston caliper at the before, the same thing with one less piston at the rear …

Fortunately, everything is managed by an ABS installed as standard (as well as a regulator and a keyless starting system), which at least promises emergency slowdowns that are more easily controlled..

The low saddle (635mm) places the Scout among easily accessible motorcycles, while the reasonable width of the tires (130 in the front, 150 in the rear) suggests a simple handling. On the other hand, if the diameter of the rims, in 16 inches, will serve the cause of handling, it will probably restrict the choice of replacement tires …

Finally, last point and not the least on which the Scout hits very hard: its price. Displayed at € 12,990 in black and guaranteed for 5 years, the beautiful Indian is likely to turn many heads, including on the side of aficionados of the competing production of Milwaukee !
