Scout FTR750: Indian unveils his racehorse
Indian took advantage of the Sturgis Rally to exhibit his Scout FTR750. This new motorcycle cut for Flat Track races will have the mission to wrest the title AMA 2017 and the scalp of the Harley-Davidson XG750R ! The hatchet is … unveiled.
Towards a 4th title in Flat Track
It was on the occasion of the 76th Sturgis Motorcycles Rally and in the company of two of its former factory riders that the oldest American motorcycle manufacturer (Indian, what else?) Has just unveiled its latest model: the Scout FTR750 !
Unlike the original Scout who can travel on asphalt roads all over the world, this new "wolf" is intended exclusively for dirt tracks. On the other hand, like its road brothers, the last born of Sturgis seeks to put sticks in the wheels of Harley-Davidson … in competition.
"Race and victory run in the veins of this brand, and everyone present was truly proud to witness this milestone in Indian Motorcycle’s historic return to competition.", rejoices President Steve Menneto.
Two weeks after the presentation of the, Indian announced the upcoming arrival of its own Flat Track machine (read). The Scout FTR750 – for "Flat Track Racer" of 750 cc – finally took the pose in the Black Hills Speedway (see the photo gallery on page 2).
"We have an amazing team of designers and engineers working on this initiative", warns Indian’s big boss,"and we all deeply care about building a world class running program (rather continental, the Flat Track is not really of planetary dimension, Editor’s note …) able to continue our legendary history on the track".
Currently exhibited in the AMA paddock on the same circuit, the first example of the Indian racing motorcycle proudly bears the No. 51 of Bill Tuman, the last winner of the "Grand National Championship" for the brand … in 1953 !
Next to the American champion stood another member of the formidable "Indian Wrecking Crew": Bobby Hill, crowned in 1951 and 1952 (their third accomplice, Ernie Beckman, died in 1999). On the other hand, not the shadow of a "Generation Next" pilot in charge of winning a fourth title for Indian…
We know that the driver Jared Mees, "Grand National Champion" in 2009 (Twins), 2012, 2014 and 2015 on Harley-Davidson XR750, will be responsible for the development of the new Indian FTR750 and should have a "wild-card" this year. For 2017, nothing is signed yet. To be continued on MNC: stay tuned !
