Austrians bring small two-cylinder

KTM boss Pierer had already confirmed in December 2018 that they were working on 500cc two-cylinder engines. The new twin should fuel five new models.

D.he new two-cylinder, which is to be manufactured by cooperation partner Bajaj in India, will be available with a displacement of 490 cm³. In addition, the liquid-cooled parallel twin should have four-valve technology, two overhead camshafts, a six-speed gearbox and a servo clutch. The power should be 55 to 60 hp. The twins are adapted to the respective application via mapping and gear ratios.

From Duke to Adventure to RC

The models KTM 490 Duke, KTM RC 490, KTM 490 Adventure, KTM 490 Supermoto and KTM 490 Enduro are expected. Above all, they should score against Japanese competitors in the growth markets in Asia. The two-cylinder 490s are not intended to replace the existing 390 single-cylinder models, but to complement them.
