The new Aprilia are in Milan !
On the eve of the Milan Motor Show opening to the public, journalists discover the latest Italian productions: in 2007, Aprilia invests in the medium-capacity roadster sector and prepares its big comeback in SBK… Presentation !
From November 15 to 19 will be held the "EICMA" Fair in Milan. Absent from the Cologne show which took place a month earlier (read), Italian manufacturers unveil their 2007 novelties at home.
And we can already take our hat off to Piaggio, who despite Aprilia’s fragile health continues to feed the Lion and allows him to pursue his projects: this year no less than four new products are presented….
The first is still in the development stage but deserves to be highlighted: Aprilia is indeed preparing its return to Superbike, thanks to an enticing 210 hp V4 !
Superbike in 2008 ?
The first 4-cylinder to escape the research and development laboratory of the small firm, this engine should allow Aprilia to line up in 2008 in the Mondial Superbike. This would increase the list of championships in which the Italian manufacturer participates and in which "we conquered 32 international titles, including six this season", proudly recalls the transalpine.
It remains to be seen when the project will be finalized, and the sooner the better: in 2008, the Superbike regulations will remain unchanged but 2009 could well see the displacement of the twin cylinders increase (read).
With a red zone peaking at 13,500 rpm and 210 horsepower in the "Superbike", the new born of Aprilia does not seem however to have anything to envy to the leaders of the category. Its cylinder heads have moreover been particularly studied to represent a minimal volume: the camshaft of the exhaust valves is driven by a cascade of pinions placed in the center of the engine while the intake valves are controlled via a chain distribution located on the side of the engine A configuration released on the V60 Mille of the RSV…
In the end, the 16 valve V4 with electronic injection Magnetti Marelli would be "more compact than the V60 Magnesium commonly installed on RSVs", specifies Aprilia, whose main challenge will be to make this engine perfectly reliable and easy to operate..
Because we remember that his RS Cube, which was full of power, never shone in three seasons of MotoGP, for lack of docility. Conversely, its RSV Mille, less impressive than its competitors in the World Superbike, had managed to make its opponents tremble in the early 2000s….
So the V4 65 ° Mille – pronounced "Mille" is better – will it restore Aprilia’s image in 4-stroke speed? Case to follow !
Carve out the lion’s share…
With prices as high as their equipment and performance levels, Aprilia’s Tuonos cannot claim to flood the market as Japanese 4-cylinder roadsters do….
This is why Aprilia is launching a motorcycle more in line with the current market: beautiful, powerful, but above all accessible. Armed with its new Shiver 750, the Lion de Noale therefore wants to carve out its share of the … juicy market for mid-capacity roadsters.
Combining sharp lines, state-of-the-art equipment and simple but effective solutions, the new roadster is not lacking in attractions. Its appearance is in tune with the times, with sharp, sharp lines that should appeal to many bikers. Its engine – a 90 ° open V-twin developing 95 hp at 9,000 rpm and 81 Nm of torque 2,000 rpm lower – should not displease the more sporty either..
Controlled by a throttle controlled electronically by a "Ride by Wire" system, the new engine should offer exemplary performance on the road while the radial mounting calipers – the "Racing" heritage of the big sisters RSV and Tuono – will be there to calm down. the ardor of the beast, or rather of its pilot.
Regarding the suspensions, the inverted 43 mm fork and the mono shock absorber simply attached to the swingarm should offer the new Shiver 750 a safe and playful behavior, a bit like a lowered Versys (read).
Finally, its tubular frame "made of aluminum and steel offers great rigidity and lightness", warns Aprilia. All that remains is to find out the price – would that be the problem? – and the release date of the Shiver … before trying it !
"The future of gearboxes"
"There has never been such an innovative technological revolution at Aprilia", launches the manufacturer! Without going so far as to install a third wheel on a two-wheeler, Aprilia presents its NA 850 Mana. But if in appearance, the novelty passes for a lambda motorcycle, it is not. !
The absence of a clutch lever and the appearance of a button on the left commodo is enough to make it clear that the Mana is not a mount like the others: electronically controlled, the transmission of this roadster indeed offers relaxation. worthy of that of a scooter … driving a real motorcycle and more !
"Three maps for the automatic transmission and a seven-speed sequential gearbox"must allow the pilot to"find the best possible configuration, whatever the traffic or conditions", happily attests the Italian.
Whatever the speed, the CVT automatic transmission stabilizes the V2 850 cc (16 valves single camshaft) speed as close as possible to 5,750 rpm, at which 78 Nm of torque are delivered. The Mana 850 therefore claims "incredible acceleration and pick-up", while sparing the efforts of the motorcyclist moving in the city center for example.
On small roads, the "auto" mode allows you to select at any time three programs which more or less smooth the performance of the V2 according to your wishes or needs: touring, sport or rain. And if the settings do not suit the pilot, he is free to switch to sequential mode.
After the Yamaha FJR1300 AS (soon to be tested on Moto-Net), it is therefore the turn of this new Aprilia roadster to introduce a new way of driving: with your fingertips or with the selector, but without a clutch !
Finally, the Mana does not stop there since its fuel tank placed under the saddle frees up space above the engine: better than the BMW Scarver, the Mana swallows full face helmet, lock or rain suit. The chassis also seems to be up to the task, as evidenced by the equipment from the Shiver: 43 mm inverted fork, 320 mm radial brakes and rear monoshock fixed directly on an aluminum swingarm..
Finally, Aprilia also announces the arrival of a new motocross allowing it to consolidate its presence on the off-road market. The 450 cc V2 75 ° twin-cylinder brilliantly driving the brand’s supermotards and enduro riders will now be able to express themselves fully thanks to the MXV.
