Tokyo Motor Show: Honda fills up with concepts
The 44th Tokyo Auto and Motorcycle Show will open at the end of October. On the Honda stand, visitors will be able to discover a host of two – and three – way concepts! – particularly successful wheels, as often with the world number one…
The Tokyo giant makes its Motor Show
There is concept and concept … At Honda in particular, some models are only exhibited at one or two international shows and then find the – large and rich – drawers of Tokyo engineers. This is the case, for example, of the 3R-C, presented in Geneva in 2010 and never reappeared since….
But there are other "concepts" which join, sometimes very quickly, the concessions of the Reds! Site readers – who, as everyone knows, have a bit more RAM than others – remember the Crosstourer and New Mid (aka Integra) vividly, presented to and marketed less than two years later..
Virtually unveiled as a preview of the 44th Tokyo Motor Show to be held from October 30 to November 8, the brand new "concept" of supersport motorcycle clearly belongs to the second category….
All in matt black coated, this machine looks like a Fireblade but its simple front disc betrays a much lower level of performance. The engine displacement, which can be seen through the fairing, should run between 250 and 300 cc.
Regarding the cycle part, however, the future small sporty Honda does not take half measures: we note in particular the presence of an inverted fork and an aluminum swingarm to make the current blush. …
"Designed with the aim of marking "a strong presence", this next-generation super sports car reveals a certain sense of speed thanks to its long front end as well as a radical driving position.", describe its designers.
By dwelling on these two points, Honda involuntarily lends itself to criticism … MNC indeed finds that the front of this future CBR looks a little too much like that of the (!), And fears that one now banal LED ramp is not enough to change the game…
Small sports car, electric scooter, hybrid three-wheeler, etc..
On the other hand, taking into account the saddle and handlebar heights, the position touted by the manufacturer does not seem that radical. The pencil stroke, on the other hand, is particularly aggressive: the fairings, tank and seat backrest (pitted at RCV?!) Are heavily slashed.
Will these muscular lines impress visitors to the Tokyo Motor Show, nominated rivals, and, ultimately, customers? MNC readers who have the chance to visit the Tokyo show will be able to give us their perspective. !
Next to the future CBR – and the RCV motor (see our gallery on the next page) – will be enthroned a completely different vehicle: version 2.0 of the, produced more than 87 million copies since 1958.
Like the, the Super Cub could go electric within months – or years? – to come up. Or how to stay "connected" while respecting "the "economical and easy to use" concept that has guided Honda since the creation of the very first generation of Super Cub".
By placing the battery at the driver’s foot – instead of the heat engine, what – Honda makes sure to retain the authentic look of the Super Cub and its ease of access and driving. Finally, very convenient: the battery is "removable and rechargeable with a simple household plug".
However, a third machine of the third type risks diverting the attention of visitors to the Honda stand: the Neowing, "a unique concept of 3-wheel motorcycle that offers sportiness and the sensations of a large displacement, particularly in bends, while adding excellent stability at low speed".
The originality of this concept is not however due to its number of wheels or its sporty approach. After all, Yamaha had presented last year at the Cologne Intermot one that already fits Honda’s description….
The uniqueness of Neowing lies in its guts: "this vehicle is equipped with a hybrid engine which combines a 4-cylinder opposed flat with electric motors in order to generate an extraordinary torque with, in the end, powerful accelerations", Honda tells us.
While it is difficult to estimate the chances of this concept moving from the carpets of the next Japanese show to the tarmac of our roads – even Honda engineers should not know and are waiting for your reactions! -, we can think that its engine has a future.
Admittedly, the launched in 2009 (in 125 cc) and 2010 (in 300 LT) did not meet the expected success. But the ever stricter regulations in terms of polluting emissions could well favor the development of such machines..
Bulky, this type of double engine fits perfectly on a tricycle. But it could just as well fit in a big motorcycle chassis … Like the GoldWing for example, equipped today with the 6-cylinder 1800 cc, and tomorrow with a 4-cylinder / electric combo, opening the doors to it. city centers prohibited to thermal vehicles? Business to follow on MNC of course: stay connected !
Finally, Honda will also present a slew of "concepts" based on existing models: small Scramblers based on Grom 50, limited series of CB 400, 1100 and 1300. There is something for everyone … for all Japanese for the instant. And the French then ?
Will we see these concepts at the next Paris Motor Show? "We can assure you that there will be concepts on our stand, but they will not necessarily be the same as those on display in Tokyo.", the Honda France communications manager tells us, telling us that"the concept machine is running at full speed !"Who will complain ?
