News - Triumph Tiger Explorer 2012: details and technical sheet - Used TRIUMPH

At Triumph, the main novelty for 2012 is called Tiger Explorer: a big 1215 cc trail-GT with which the Hinckley manufacturer intends to steal market share from the indebted BMW R1200GS (read our Tests of the R 1200 GS 2010).

At Triumph, the main novelty for 2012 is called Tiger Explorer: a big 1215 cc trail-GT with which the Hinckley manufacturer intends to steal market share from the indebted BMW R1200GS (read our).

Modern and rather well equipped as standard (Ride-By-Wire wireless accelerator, cruise control, anti-skid and disconnectable ABS, on-board computer, electrical outlet, adjustable saddle, screen and handlebars), this new very ambitious model has been waiting the Milan Motorcycle Show to unveil all its characteristics and technical details (see in particular our and read our).

137 hp and 121 Nm of torque !

The centerpiece of this 2012 Tiger Explorer: a brand new 1215 cc three-cylinder (85 mm stroke and 71.4 mm bore) that develops 137 hp and 121 Nm of torque. A rather impressive power for the category (the Boxer of the GS only comes out for example "only" 110 ch), even if the supercharged twin of the Ducati Multistrada 1200 retains the advantage with its 150 ch (read our).

Coupled and requiring a priori only moderate maintenance (final transmission by cardan joint and overhaul every 16,000 km), the English 3-legged would also have a hairy-like sound and a solid character that would recall "those of the old blocks of 955 cc ", a representative of the brand we met at EICMA told us..

This mechanism is housed in a tubular steel trellis-type frame, while the Tiger Explorer has the services of a Kayaba inverted fork of 46 mm in diameter and a mono-shock with separate reservoir adjustable in pre-stress. and in relaxation.

The 19-inch (front) and 17-inch (rear) rims respectively accommodate 305 and 282 mm diameter discs pinched by four-piston calipers at the front and a two-piston caliper at the rear. Equipment from Nissin, who fails the heavy task (no pun intended!) Of stopping the some 259 kg all full of the beast !

Compared to the 229 kg (in running order) of an R1200GS or to the 217 kg (all full) of a Multistrada 1200, the big Triumph road trail therefore displays a certain overweight (even a certain overweight!) That we hopes intelligently distributed along its 1530 mm wheelbase.

Announced around € 15,000 for the end of March 2012 in the (in blue, gray or black), the Tiger Explorer receives a very supplied on-board console (read the "Instrumentation" section below) which provides information between others on the gear engaged, the air temperature and the fuel level, and which is controlled from the handlebars.

Like its designated rival (yes: the R1200GS!), The new English motorcycle already offers an impressive list of options: from saddle and heated grips to fog lights, through flexible and rigid luggage or a Triumph U-lock (read the last part of our technical sheet below).

The press launch of this Tiger Explorer is scheduled for the end of February: stay tuned !
