Triumph unveils new Tiger Sport 2016 in London
To properly celebrate ” its ” motorcycle show which is held in London this weekend, the English manufacturer Triumph unveils in world preview its new Tiger Sport, which inherits in particular the engine of the Speed Triple 2016. Discovery.
The MNC MCN London Motorcycle Show which will open its doors tomorrow – and for three days – will allow British "bikers" to see, touch and ride all the 2016 motorcycle novelties presented at the end of November at the EICMA international fair in Milan.
Spoiled by their national manufacturer Triumph, visitors to the London show will however be the very first bikers to experience an unexpected and yet predictable new model up close: the new Tiger Sport 1050 !
"Our British colleagues are lifting the veil on the bike tomorrow, but we will not have more information this weekend", warns Eric Pecoraro, marketing and communication manager at Triumph France interviewed by Site:"therefore no need to ask me its power, its torque or its price !"
To know his precious values, we will have to wait a few more weeks: "the release of the new Tiger Sport is scheduled for mid-April, so we will come back to it at the end of March", promises our interlocutor. Site’s little finger remains infiltrated !
What Mister Pecoraro is authorized to tell us, however, is that the new Triumph receives "the same powertrain as the very last Speed Triple that we had you try recently"(read our). Good news for French bikers therefore: the new Tiger 1050 will be Euro4 approved, therefore delivered in" Full Power " !
Like the maxiroadster, the sporty maxitrail gives in to the sirens of electronics: the arrival of the ride-by-wire control system indeed allows the integration of a Traction Control and engine mapping modes (Rain, Road and Sport) which Tiger Sport used to do without.
The English manufacturer will therefore have to correct its arguments: "Triumph technology guarantees the constant improvement of our motorcycles. This does not mean chasing power or unnecessarily overloading our products with complicated gadgets, but it does mean producing motorcycles that are ever more refined, more manoeuvrable and better suited to their use.", previously claimed its official website !
The Tiger has a speed in the engine
We have to believe that the Tiger Sport had no other choice than to "electronically" to be able to compete with the sophisticated Multistrada and Caponord (read our), not to mention the S1000XR, MT-09 Tracer or Super Duke GT…
Would Tiger Sport lose all its authenticity in 2016? Never mind: as on the Speed Triple, the Hinckley engineers wanted to keep the exhaust in the high position. A questionable choice in terms of dynamics, but perfectly defensible on the aesthetic level.
By retaining this architecture, Triumph effectively maintains the breathtaking view of the pretty rear rim mounted on the beefy single-sided swingarm. Most of the cycle part is also unchanged, and that’s good: the "royal braking (front and rear)" rented by MNC is retained !
By investigating further, Le Journal moto du Net also came to learn that "the Speed engine was slightly deflated on the Tiger, to around 130-135 hp, in an attempt to consolidate torque at mid-range". Thus, Triumph does not participate in the escalation towards ever more power.
Already terribly effective in 2013, the 2016 version of the Triple 1050 therefore promises to be even tastier, especially as the new Tiger receives the anti-dribble clutch of the new Speed. And this mess of Tigress does not stop there…
While it was previously necessary to pay 280 euros (list price) to benefit from a screen worthy of the name and hand guards, the Tiger Sport 2016 is equipped as standard with a larger and adjustable tinted screen, hands … with cruise control and heated grips !
"No, no GT pack is planned", explains Eric Pecoraro,"but our Tiger can still receive a pair of large suitcases and a top case as an accessory. We want to keep its image as a sports motorcycle". An important point for the brand which does not offer a Superbike or a sporty GT in its catalog….
We note in passing that the Tiger Sport keeps its muscular line but sports a new coat: the gray "Aluminum" of the official photos gives it a more distinguished look, less "Recingue Touch" than the previous colors. A black "Matt" color underlined with "Neon" yellow will also be available..
"We paid special attention to the finish", insists the French manager with MNC,"by reworking several details such as mirrors, footrests or graphics".
Naturally, all these small improvements and especially the big additions to this new Tiger Sport 2016 will increase the bill. "Once again, you will have to wait until the end of March or the beginning of April to find out its exact price, but you can expect an increase comparable to that observed on the Speed Triple."(+340 euros in standard version, Editor’s note).
Posted on the French Triumph site at € 12,990 (2015 model), the Tiger Sport should therefore remain one of the cheapest motorcycles in its category in this 2016 version. Something to delight its future buyers … and thrill its customers. competing! To follow naturally on MNC: stay connected !
