Novus electric motorcycle for 2022
Only 75 kilograms light, but 18 kW strong
Novus presented its electric motorcycle as a prototype at CES 2019, and the electric motorcycle is now ready for series production. Deliveries will start in mid-2022.
"Looks like a Husqvarna Vitpilen, only without the engine", so the first assessment of a colleague at the prototype premiere 2019 at the CES 2019 in Las Vegas. That’s in the eye of the beholder. But the fact is that this vehicle does have an engine. The developers specify a total of 18 kW peak power and 200 Nm torque for the wheel hub motor in the rear wheel. This puts them above the light motorcycle limitation of 11 kW, so the Novus is a fully-fledged motorcycle. Accordingly, the top speed is 120 km / h. The Novus should complete the sprint from zero to 50 km / h in 3 seconds. The range in city traffic is given as 100 kilometers, then the 4.3 kWh large, permanently installed lithium-ion battery has to be connected to the grid again. An 80 percent charge should be possible in 30 minutes.
Novus
Weighs only 75 kilograms
For a motorcycle, however, the Novus e-bike is very compact and light. The length is 1.84 meters, the width is 76 centimeters and the height is 94 centimeters. Including the battery, the total weight should be a slim 75 kilograms. The load of the single-seater is given as a whopping 110 kilograms.

The many carbon fiber components – frame, swing arm, 18-inch wheels, telescopic fork – make up a large part of the flyweight – almost all of the assemblies are made from the ultra-light material. The spring element of the fork sits directly in the steering column tube, just like on a mountain bike. The spring travel should be 90 millimeters. The fully adjustable central spring strut on the carbon rear wheel swing arm relies on a deflection and 110 millimeters of spring travel. The carbon fiber monocoque frame, which weighs just 7 kilograms, is both a load-bearing skeleton and a design-giving outer skin. It completely dispenses with additional cladding, but integrates the entire technology invisibly.
Fully digitized
A keyless drive authorization system, three performance modes – Base, Super, God – as well as the obligatory app networking with which all data, settings and statistics can be monitored are offered. The navigation is also integrated here. The smartphone can also be adapted to the cockpit. The LED front headlights and the LED central display are also integrated into the handlebar. The entire operating system can be updated over-the-air.
Novus
A monoblock brake caliper engages a 230 millimeter brake disc on the front wheel. The electric motor can actively and passively recuperate on the rear wheel. Active in that the motor is deliberately brought to electrical deceleration using the left brake lever. Passive, by defining different modes via the app, in which the motorcycle, if no gas signal is processed, permanently brakes electrically and thus also recovers energy.
Three performance variants from 46,284 euros
The Novus e-bike was developed by Marcus Weidig and Rene Renger together with their team in Braunschweig. The Novus is now available in five colors and three power levels (45 km / h version: this can be driven with a car driver’s license; 7.5 kw version: this can be driven with the A1 driver’s license; 18 kw version: This can be driven with the A2 driver’s license). The reservation fee is EUR 1,000. The total price is 46,284 euros. The handmade Novus bikes will then be delivered from mid-2022.
Conclusion
18 kW – after all, almost 24.5 PS – weigh only 75 kilograms in the Novus e-bike. That promises sensational driving pleasure. Limiting factors, however, are the maximum range of 100 kilometers, which can only be achieved in city traffic, and the basic price of over 45,000 euros.
