The Safety Commission is currently testing a new form of penalty in Qatar to sanction drivers in the race. Explanations.

The principle is simple: instead of taking the optimal trajectory at the chord of the turn, the pilots having committed a fault during the race would be obliged to follow a wider trajectory outside the curve (example above with the turn # 6 of the Losail circuit).

According to Carlos Ezpeleta, MotoGP sporting director – and, the -, this new penalty should cause the faulty rider to lose "between 2 and 5 seconds depending on the circuits".

The idea is to provide the race management with a new penalty that is easier to control than the obligation to give up a place – not easy to manage in the middle of a traffic at over 300 km / h and uneven depending on the time saved – and less severe than the passage to the stand ("ride through"), which costs the pilot dearly in terms of lost time.
