Paris-Dunkerque - Paris-Dunkirk experienced from the inside in a Suzuki DL 650 V-Strom - Preparation and choice of equipment

On the handlebars of his faithful Suzuki DL 650 V-Strom, our collaborator Marcos Poidebard tells us about his Paris-Dunkirk: three days of mud, paths, landscapes and encounters that will remain etched in his memory forever…. Story, photos and video.

Preparation and choice of equipment

Since I have my motorcycle license, my travel wishes were to go alone, far, without a predefined plan according to my desires, encounters and chance. After having more or less realized these dreams, I feel like trying a different experience in a short period of time, and the opportunity of Paris-Dunkerque interests me a lot..

Three days for the pleasure of riding, without any notion of competition – if not with myself -, the possibility of testing my on a route without great difficulty (which I believe!), Meetings with as many or more bikers. experienced as me but with the same mentality and a little "roots" way of life in a nice atmosphere.

A few days before the start, the questions start to jostle in my head … Will I need all-terrain boots? Are my pants suitable for hiking? And there, I look and re-look at them to spot which bikes and which equipment had the previous participants..

I finally decide to keep my equipment, and not just because of the budget! Since I will be riding on tracks and paths not quite ready to be taken by my V-Strom, I prefer to ride with my usual equipment: Sace fabric pants with knee protection, Bering jacket, IXS road boots – quite tired and not so waterproof anymore … – Shoei modular helmet and Furygan summer gloves.

Finally, I complete my outfit with a North Face waterproof bag attached with straps which contains my campaign tent, my sleeping bag, a small inflatable mattress, two other pairs of gloves, my camera, a puncture drill bit kit (new and never used …), jeans, sneakers and three t-shirts). That way, it will be a test of fire for all of us: the pilot, his clothes and the bike !
