Paris Motor Show - Enduro: BMW has entered the race! - Used BMW

The BMW 450cc prototype which raced the World Enduro Championship (MAXXIS WEC) is currently on display "in its original condition" at the Mondial du deux-Roues on the BMW Motorrad stand, Porte de Versailles, until Sunday 8:00 p.m..

With the presence of MX World champion Joël Smets on the handlebars of a 450cc BMW prototype during the last round of the WEC, the organization of a challenge rewarding the best franchiser and its recent takeover of the Husqvarna brand, BMW is realizing in fanfare its arrival – or rather its return – in the world of enduro.

The GP of Spain, Italy and France have indeed served as testing grounds for the development of a 450cc enduro machine, entirely designed by the German manufacturer BMW Motorrad and currently on display at the Mondial du two wheels.

This prototype marks the arrival of BMW on the off-road, with a machine that aims to be competitive in enduro and off-road, and no longer only in the tradition of large engines appreciated by backpackers..

The German firm had put the means on the WEC by moving a real team and by entrusting the handlebars of its prototype to Joël Smets and Sasha Eckert. Because the 450cc is not a "replica" enduro. BMW engineers innovate to make it an exceptional machine "thought like a BMW", recall the brochures of the brand.

To improve traction, BMW engineers devised a gearbox output pinion in the axis of the swingarm, which has the effect of giving the chain constant tension, a longer wheelbase and better traction..

The engine with its inclined cylinder allows direct injection meeting Euro3 standards and offers "optimum combustion", assures BMW. As for the geometry of the engine coupled to a perimeter tubular frame enclosing the propellant unit, it lowers the center of gravity.

If the BMW team was released from any objective in terms of sporting results on the 2007 World Enduro Championship, the work provided is aimed at medium-term performance..

As Jean-Michel Cavret, director of BMW Motorrad France confirms, "2007 is a year of development. Our presence has drawn attention to BMW and we must live up to our image. Once the development is completed, we will create a racing version with which BMW will aim for the podium within 1 to 2 years. !".

No date of marketing is advanced today but the recent takeover of Husqvarna by BMW provides it with a distribution network. And BMW Motorrad is not launching blindly into enduro: the German motorcyclist, backed by analyzes and market studies, believes that an orientation towards off-road motorcycles makes sense on a global level: we we are far from the gloominess of the French off-road market !
