[Visio-interview 1/3] Who is Mathieu Gines, double champion of France Superbike ?
Quartararo and Zarco are not the only French people to excel on the handlebars of a speed bike: in FSBK, Mathieu Gines is the benchmark! MNC spoke with this little Breton who became a great champion. First video on his beginnings, his visions of racing and the road (in FJR customs in particular)…
A week ago in Nogaro, Mathieu Gines (32 years old on November 20) won his second consecutive French Superbike champion title! Site therefore contacted this value – very – sure of French motorcycle speed, already crowned twice Supersport (in 2009 and 2013) and once in 125 (in 2005).
His first laps of the wheels and his first races – not very conclusive! – in motocross at his home in Brittany, his "click" transfer on the asphalt on a moped and hill climb, the unwavering support of his dad to travel France: Mathieu tells us about his beginnings on two-wheelers and in competition.
Damn fast on his R1 prepared for the track, Mat also drives on the road: the one who originally took the motorcycle license to be able to participate in the Moto Tour rally – "a carnage", according to him! – today wins its crust at the controls of an FJR1300 prepared for customs! He also drives, a little bit, on his Deauville 650 for less than 1000 euros !
He also explains to us why he wears the race number 41 – and not the n ° 1 champion who can bring bad luck -, how his title in 125 against a certain Jules Cluzel revealed it in 2005, how his sports career was saved in extremis in 2009 with his first crown in Supersport when he was to join the Navy…
Here are the topics covered in the first part of our long interview, which was as fascinating as it was enriching: it lasted an entire hour but went even faster than a thrilling Superbike race … Stay tuned to find out more !
In two videos to be released, Mathieu Gines will confide in MNC on his passage from BMW to Yamaha this winter – but always on Michelin -, the glory without victory, the importance of partners and sponsors, the FSBK compared to other Superbike championships , the Grand Prix and the WorldSBK … and Endurance of course, since he was world champion in the discipline with the GMT94 in 2014 and he continues to ride. Finally he tries.
