Kawasaki makes masks and hydroalcoholic gel against the coronavirus
Kawasaki’s motorcycle factory in Lincoln, Nebraska, shut down following containment measures linked to Covid-19, uses its skills and some of its supplies to produce health products like hydroalcoholic gel and masks. Explanations.
This conversion of the North American Kawasaki site has been in effect since the end of March, after the main hospital in the Lincoln area expressed its need for certain chemicals to make hydroalcoholic gel. Good pick: the Greens had precisely in stock two of the three substances sought !

- MNC file :
"Kawasaki’s paint department at the Lincoln plant […] donated to the hospital two 55 gallon barrels (208.2 liters per barrel, Editor’s note) of Isopropyl alcohol and two 55 gallon barrels. gallons of chemical hydrogen peroxide, or 833 liters in total, which the plant typically uses for cleaning and other painting-related processes ".
"With these chemicals, hundreds of gallons of hand sanitizer, cleaning solutions and disinfectant wipes will be manufactured for a medical network made up of more than 50 hospitals," says the Lincoln plant in Kawasaki, who wants to "support the fight against the pandemic in any way possible, alongside many other local businesses".
This mobilization against the coronavirus also involves the manufacture of protective masks for the same hospitals, as well as for the University of Nebraska medical center..
"Volunteer employees have started up the company’s large 3D printer and started printing protective masks 24 hours a day," the Greens explain. "Some staff even print additional items on personal home printers.".
In order to continue manufacturing these precious masks, the factory has sourced plastic raw material with the aim of "donating supplies to manufacture at least 2,000 additional masks". In addition, the purchasing department of the Kawasaki manufacture "is actively working" to manufacture "12,000 additional masks".
When Kawasaki goes from making motorcycles to masks !
Finally, the Research and Development department of the American factory is also making its contribution against the virus: the factory has recently been manufacturing adapters which allow the Nebraska State police to adapt old unused filters to their vehicles. new respiratory masks.
“Kawasaki’s R&D department designed the adapter in a matter of hours and had a prototype 3D printed the same day,” Akashi’s brand proudly reveals. "The adapter was designed to use a jet ski rubber gasket (Kawasaki, of course, editor’s note!) To attach the filter to the mask"
"Once the design was validated, a local Kawasaki parts supplier agreed to 3D print – and donate – parts to deploy them as quickly as possible: 35 adapters using Jet ski gaskets were donated to police in the state in two days and 65 more adapters were then made ".
A great example of solidarity mobilization against the coronavirus! Stay connected … at home !
