The powerful Aprilia Dorsoduro 1200 introduces itself

Content of

Even those who don’t believe in occultism and its mysterious powers are helplessly exposed to the charms of the brand new Aprilia Dorsoduro 1200. It inevitably casts a spell over fans of powerful supermotos. Warning: risk of obsession!

unlike summoners of supernatural powers reveals the A.prilia Dorsoduro 1200 her magic very real: she enchants with aesthetics. Their upright, proud posture and the attractive lines flatter the eye, the performance data of the athlete’s soul. 130 PS and 115 Nm are unique in the supermoto segment and wrap sporty sorcerer’s apprentices in rows around your finger. Let’s go to the magician to make use of her promising arts!

Even when idling, the Dorsoduro hammers its sound like mystical magic spells into the vastness of Andalusia. The dull and powerful rumble from 1197 cubic centimeters enlivens the driver and discourages opponents – the spell works! The 90-degree V2, equipped with double ignition, converts gas commands immediately into propulsion at just over 2000 rpm: no chopping, no chain whipping, no stuttering. Unearthly! With a bore-to-stroke ratio of 106 to 67.8 millimeters, the two-cylinder, which is quite short-stroke and therefore sporty, serves around 5000 tours and the load dashes up and away as if by magic. Only at around 8000 revolutions does the completely redeveloped 1200 series take a mini pause to pause and then continue organizing cheerfully up to the locking speed. The vibrations are pleasantly low across the entire speed range; the full and equally cultivated punch of the extremely compact V2 characterizes the appearance of the large Dorsoduro.

Like its little sister with 750 cubic centimeters, the 1200 also offers three different modes for engine control: "R." for Rain, "T" for touring and "S." for Sport. Only the latter two modes deliver full power. In "T"-The Dorsoduro hardly changes position, but for sports enthusiasts who always want to call up the full dose, it goes to work a tad cautiously. The S mode remains. Here the 1200er implements gas commands ultra-direct; However, in this setting, the power sumo goes really hard on the gas. The bottom line is that the new propellant generates a lot of positive energy even in non-shamans.

The shock absorber from Sachs is a little tighter than the standard 750. This improves the driving characteristics.

No rocket science, but the result of time-consuming coordination work is behind the traction control. It also offers three setting options. If there is too much slip, the electronics regulate the opening angle of the throttle valve. This happens gently and works particularly well on levels two and three, as they intervene much later than on the sensitive level one. Full pros on the last groove choose the last position. However, the testers could not determine whether and how the traction control (ATC) catches a breaking rear wheel at this level. Because on the dry country road and with production tires – Pirelli Diablo Corsa III – they couldn’t regulate the system, even with a stately sloping position and courageously taut cables. It is always amazing how much grip modern tires transfer.

However, there is a little devil in the detail of the ATC: When activated, it does not allow wheelies. Unthinkable with supermotos! To switch the ATC on or off, the driver has to stop and work through the menu. The system, which is quite simply structured, only compares the speeds of the front and rear wheels. If they differ too much, the ATC evaluates this as a slip and puts an end to the drift. Nevertheless, the electronics do not offer a magic protection circle before takeoffs. For example, if the sorcerer pulls the tap at low speed and low gear, the front wheel shoots up suddenly, sometimes suddenly; the system reacts too slowly in this case. Despite the assistance systems, the driver should never completely ignore his instincts.

The same applies to anchoring. Because the ABS regulates extremely late, it can happen that the Dorsoduro stretches the rear straight up, even on a flat stretch. In the case of emergency braking and ideal grip conditions, the inexperienced threatens to rollover. Aprilia gives this very sporty set-up priority over an early regulation system. The Italians only offer ABS and ATC in combination. Surcharge: 1000 euros. Regardless of the effectiveness of the anti-lock device, the biters convince with a great pressure point, precise controllability, high transparency and fantastic braking performance.

With the new Dorsoduro you can circle the corners precisely.

The oracle prophesies curves, shower up! The chassis is a blend of the Dorsoduro 750 and new parts. With it, the 1200 circles precisely around corners. The handling of the sumo, which, according to the manufacturer, weighs 223 kilograms, is also okay, the combination of six-inch rims and the 180 Pirelli works perfectly with well-warmed soles. Experience has shown that Italian rubbers turn in rather bulky at low outside temperatures.

Conclusion: The magic of the Dorsoduro 1200 works. The Italian offers a great overall package consisting of a powerful, sophisticated engine and a successful chassis. It mainly appeals to sporty and experienced drivers, as ABS in particular requires increased attention in the limit area. Despite its magic, the Dorsoduro clearly originated in this world. Thank heaven!
