Harley-Davidson to sell electric bikes for children !
Harley-Davidson continues its surprising diversification with the takeover of the Californian company StaCyc, which builds electric bikes for children! The "Kid Bikers" will be able to discover their future mounts in the American points of sale of the Motor Company at the end of the year…. Explanations and objectives.
Harley-Davidson seems to have taken a real electric frenzy since its decision to materialize its electric motorcycle project, whose pre-orders have just opened in the United States and will begin in April 2019 for the European market, according to the latest forecasts from Motor Company.

The American brand, which has already created a certain surprise by giving substance to this electrification approach, has gone even further in the "shock" announcements this winter by revealing its latest projects: derivatives of mountain bikes and electric scooters designed for "inspire new bikers who want to experience new sensations on the handlebars".
And for those who thought Harley-Davidson was going to stop there – after all, that’s already a lot for a rather traditionalist manufacturer – hang on to the handlebars because other surprising projects are underway! Starting with the sale of electric bikes for children (!), Planned through "the intermediary of selected Harley-Davidson dealers in the United States" from the "third quarter of 2019".
This unexpected diversification results from the takeover of the company StaCyc, which has been building electric bicycles for children "from the age of 3" since 2016. This brand based in Temecula, between Los Angeles and San Diego (Califonia), offers two star models: the Edrive 12 and Edrive 16 (for 12 and 16 inches) whose price varies between 650 and 700 dollars (around 575 and 620 €).
The same vision for the next generation of pilots…
“We are delighted that StaCyc is becoming part of the Harley-Davidson family,” said Heather Malenshek, vice president of marketing at Harley, announcing the takeover on March 5. "The StaCyc team shares our vision for the next generation of riders on a global scale and we are confident that together we will have a significant impact on the fun of riding for children around the world.".
StaCyc would have "inspired more than 6,000 new riders to take up the sport," Harley-Davidson believes. This sales figure does not seem particularly high (2000 units per year), even if MNC is not a specialist in the bicycle market and even less electric. To be put in perspective with a total population of 325 million inhabitants, of which almost 19% are under 14 years old () !
The children’s bikes sold in motorcycle dealerships (yes, must be continued!) Will initially be StaCyc rebadged in Harley-Davidson colors like the prototype above, specifies the brand of motorcycles since 1903 … and therefore also bikes 116 years later !
No matter the bottle, as long as there is drunkenness … sales ?!
"The StaCyc electric two-wheelers will provide an entry point for the youngest riders to enjoy the thrill of driving", assures the manufacturer who thus wishes "to widen its portfolio of electric products" to occupy "a leading role in the ‘electrification of the motorcycle’.
"We are demonstrating our commitment by bringing a full line of electrical products to a wide audience who will be inspired to imagine and find out what is possible with Harley-Davidson," concludes Heather Malenshek. Provided however that these hypothetical "Kid Bikers" really subscribe to this approach of familiarization with the mark, just like that the dealers "tattooed" to the famous V-twin.
- MNC of July 30, 2018:
Remember that Harley-Davidson presented a major strategic restructuring last summer in an attempt to stem the continual decline in sales, linked in part to the aging of its customers. This revival plan, planned until "the", includes the electrification of its range but also the arrival of a maxitrail and small and medium-displacement motorcycles manufactured in Asia. To be continued naturally on MNC: stay recharged !
