BMW F 900 R model year 2020
With a further developed in-line two-cylinder
EICMA 2019
The new BMW F 800 R comes with more displacement, more power and new engine drag torque control. The mid-range roadster will be presented at EICMA.
HThe centerpiece of the new BMW F 900 R is the further developed in-line twin cylinder, which was introduced in 2018 with the F 850 GS. For comparison: In the Enduro, 95 HP (70 kW) are generated from 853 cm³ displacement and a maximum torque of 92 Nm at 6,250 rpm. For the new F 900 R, on the other hand, there are now 895 cc and 105 hp (77 kW) at 8,500 rpm. With its predecessor it was 798 cm³ displacement, 90 hp peak and 86 Nm maximum torque.
In addition, an even fuller torque curve should ensure sporty driving pleasure: a maximum of 92 Nm (at 6,500 rpm), but in the engine speed range between 4,500 rpm and 8,500 rpm, more than 87 Nm should be available. According to BMW development, the consumption should not have increased, for the predecessor, BMW specifies 4.8 liters per 100 kilometers.
The ignition interval remains at 270/450 degrees, which, together with the new underfloor silencer system, should ensure a roadster-like sound. Furthermore, a 48 hp version for driving license class A2 is also available ex works.
Like the F 750 GS and F 850 GS, the new BMW F 900 R also uses a steel bridge frame that integrates the engine as a load-bearing element. At the front, an upside-down telescopic fork with 135 mm guides the wheel, at the rear an aluminum twin-arm swing arm with central spring strut and 142 mm of travel. The tank is now back to its classic position between the handlebars and the driver and, at 13 liters, holds two liters less than its predecessor.

Ergonomics BMW F 900 R
BMW describes the seating position on the new BMW F 900 R as “considerably more dynamic and more front-wheel-oriented than on the F 800 R”. In comparison, the footrests are 15 mm higher and 5 mm further back, the handlebars 25 mm further forward. In addition, the area where the legs nestle against the frame has become narrower. As usual, BMW has a lot to offer when it comes to benches: In addition to the standard upholstery, there is a high, an extra high and a low bench seat. Together with an optional lowering, the seat height of the BMW F 900 R can then range between 770 and 865 mm. The step arch length is 1,820 mm. In addition, the standard levers are individually adjustable.
BMW
Unique selling point: Only BMW has so much choice in terms of seat height. Between 770 and 865 mm are possible depending on the seat and combination with lowering ex works.
Standard equipment
The new BMW F 900 R is equipped with an anti-hopping clutch as standard and offers the driver two driving modes to choose from with “Road” and “Rain”. All-round LED lighting is also available at no extra charge. All relevant information is available on the 6.5-inch colored TFT display and the smartphone or other device can be connected via Bluetooth for making calls, listening to music and navigating.
additional options
If you want more than the two standard driving modes, you can upgrade to the “Dynamic” and “Dynamic Pro” driving programs at an additional cost. Traction control, curve-optimized ABS and adaptive headlights also cost extra. On request, the BMW F 900 R can be equipped with an engine drag torque control (MSR). Its purpose is to prevent the rear wheel from slipping by suddenly releasing the gas or shifting down.
The optionally available electronic suspension can increase the comfort as well as touring and pillion suitability of the BMW F 900 R by automatically adjusting the damping of the shock absorber depending on the “driving condition and maneuvers”.
BMW
All new BMW F 900 R are equipped with a 6.5-inch colored TFT display.
Keyless Ride, heated grips, shift assistant, cruise control, preparation for the navigation system and case holder can be selected in the configurator, as can all luggage accessories and alternative add-on parts such as engine protection or pillion cover. Those interested can even find the right textile suit in the BMW motorcycle shop.
Colors for the BMW F 900 R
Three color and style variants are available for the 2020 model year: black-silver, blue-black and silver-red – or expressed in PR language: Blackstorm metallic, San Marino blue metallic and in the Sport style in Hockenheim metallic silver / Racingred uni.
BMW has also already mentioned prices. At least 8,800 euros must be invested in the new BMW F 900 R. Can be ordered immediately.
