Test Vectrix maxi scooter

The American company Vectrix builds one of the first maxi electric scooters. How does it go with electricity?

Why do we write about electric scooters? The Vectrix is a milestone, the first street-legal, really fast large scooter that can even be driven with an A1 driver’s license. No exhaust, no taxes, hardly any maintenance required. He looks completely normal. Well, he has no exhaust. And no starter button. ??Ignition?? on, life comes to life in the cockpit. The speedometer needle drives off the scale, the? Fuel gauge ?? right shows all bars. Battery full, we’re ready to go. Simply on the ?? throttle ?? turn, then it goes off. Quite brisk even. Because even when the engine is stationary, it has 65 Nm of torque, more than any petrol 600 series. That pushes even the 232 kilograms of scooters plus 85 kilograms of driver forward tremendously, in five seconds to 50 things. As if pulled on a rubber band, the load accelerates up to a maximum of 100 km / h, with a slight tram noise, without shifting, without clutching. An unbelievable experience, this floating lightness.

Without gas?? if the scooter only rolls on, braked by the driving resistances. In other words: it gets faster and faster downhill. Reminds of two-stroke driving. If it gets too fast, you can brake or turn the throttle beyond a central position. The electric motor turns into a generator and produces electricity that is fed back into the batteries. Good idea. Also great: if you turn the gas the wrong way around while standing, the Vectrix will reverse! You learned it very quickly: The throttle grip is a sensitive potentiometer that allows electricity to flow. When accelerating from the battery into the motor, when braking from the motor back into the battery. Over time, you almost only brake with the engine. The normal brakes are only needed in an emergency.

Bilski

Optically a completely normal scooter, hardly noticeable acoustically: the Vectrix glides almost silently through the landscape.

Everything works fine in city traffic. Overland, however, the question arises, how far does he go? The bars disappear, the calculated remaining range fluctuates between 14 and 50 kilometers, after 20 kilometers doubts arise. Has the point of no return already been reached, or is there anything else going on? You can’t refuel, and the 3.7 kilowatt-hour battery can be charged at any socket thanks to the cable and built-in charger, but it takes a good three hours. Turn around, home, the last few meters the Vectrix slows down, all juice after 54 kilometers. After all. Costs? 10,000 euros for a scooter is a lot of money. 70 cents for 50 kilometers is sensationally little. The ecological conscience still has to transfer a lot of money. But development has only just begun.
