Eve & Eva: The new electric model from Energica was not named after MOTORRAD correspondent Eva Breutel.

This is how the Energica Eva is refueled: the quick charge takes 30 minutes, the conventional one at the socket 3.5 hours.

The clear display provides all the necessary information – here, for example, that the electricity is only enough for eleven kilometers.

Energica Eva electric motorcycle put to the test
Nothing for brakes
The new electric model Eva comes from the same company as the super sports car Ego, namely Energica from Modena. But the new Energica Eva has that certain something, unfortunately also in terms of price.
Electric motorcycle. If you brake, you lose: This sacred motorcyclist rule has never been better than the new Energica Eva. Because drivers who rarely use the brake lever reward them with additional energy. The new e-naked bike comes from the same stable as the super sports car Ego (MOTORRAD 16/2014), namely from Energica from Modena. The technology of both motorcycles is beyond any doubt: beautiful tubular space frame, high-quality components, the finest workmanship, super-smart electronics – no wonder, because the young Energica company is a subsidiary of the CRP Group, which supplies precision parts for Formula 1.

Energica Eva electric motorcycle put to the test
Nothing for brakes
Eva shares the technical basis with the Ego, but is much more relaxed than the super sports car because of the higher Streetfighter handlebars and a more upright seating position. The extremely lush torque of the electric motor of 170 Nm begins at around 50 km / h and then remains constantly present. This full pressure is incomparable, especially since, thanks to the automatic system, no clutch or shifting interrupts the forward thrust. The performance is accompanied by a low-frequency howl that the developers create as a sound backdrop.
Eco-mode should go 200 kilometers
The short test ride leads around 50 kilometers from Modena into the Apennines on a former hill climb route that requires both chassis and electric motor. The power output can be adjusted, whereby the Eco-Mode of the Energica Eva should reach 200 kilometers, but with the limitation of around 80 km / h it quickly turns out to be too boring. So switch to full power in sport mode!
It draws a lot of electricity, but why is there the smart recuperation system that generates new energy when you close the throttle grip? It works much more remarkably with the Eva than with the Ego and can be adjusted in four stages, whereby “Off” feels like an idle – not recommended given the Energica Eva’s impressive weight of 280 kilograms.
Energica Eva available from June 2016
The “High” mode, on the other hand, takes a bit of getting used to, because it decelerates when you close the throttle grip that not even a thick two-cylinder can do. But you will soon get the hang of it: take a bend, ignore the brake and just close the gas. In the back and forth of unknown streets, the complete exclusion of the brakes is quite a challenge if you want to accelerate properly in between. But the round and harmonious driving style is always more fun, the longer you care for it. And brings energy, because at the end of the business trip there is still around 30 percent charge on the watch – despite the sport mode.
The electronics contribute to calming down, because they recalculate every 100 meters how far the current will last with the current driving style and even show the way to the next charging station. Anyone who has the opportunity to test drive the Energica Eva should use it, because the new one, which will be launched on the market in June 2016, has that certain something. Unfortunately, this also applies to the price of a good 30,000 euros. Further information from the German importer MMS Concept in Osterode (Switzerland: E-performance in Stans).
