Recall Honda Africa Twin

Main stand can fall off

Honda is recalling the Africa Twin model to workshops because of a problem with the main stand. The stand may fall off due to a defective locking ring.

Because the main stand can fall off, Honda calls the CRF 1000 L A.frica twin back. Models SD04 and SD06 from the years of construction 2016 to 2018 are affected – if they were delivered with a main stand from the original Honda accessories. The recall affects 31,906 models worldwide, 23,348 of which are in Europe. However, since a main stand is not installed on all vehicles, not all vehicle owners have to go to the workshops with their bikes.

Snap ring can break

According to Honda Germany, the circlip on the main stand axle can break due to a material defect. This can cause the stand to slide sideways and slip out of its mount, which can lead to the whole motorcycle falling over when it is jacked up.

A locking ring on the main stand can break.

There is a risk of injury here. Even when driving, the stand is no longer securely attached to the motorcycle and can be lost if the locking ring breaks. This in turn poses a risk for vehicles behind or can lead to a fall.

The Africa Twin only has one side stand as standard. The main stand ex works costs 214 euros extra. Retrofit main stands such as those offered by SW-Motech for the Africa Twin are not affected.

During the MOTORRAD endurance test of the Africa Twin, which was also equipped with the original Honda main stand, no problems were encountered with the attachment.
