Reduce standing noise: 95 dB limiter for retrofitting
95 dB limiter for retrofitting
This is also how it works with the Tyrol limit
The accessory provider 3P Pedalo Power Parts has developed retrofit kits that limit the standing noise on motorcycles to 95 dB. This makes the bikes suitable for Tyrol.

3P Pedalo Power Parts, based in Sassenberg in North Rhine-Westphalia, develops and homologates 48 HP throttle sets, moped throttles as well as ATV and quad conversions. The latest development is a 95 dB limiter, which reduces the stationary noise of motorcycles to precisely this value.
This retrofit solution is particularly interesting for motorcyclists who like to ride their bikes in Tyrol, because the Austrians don’t have the Noise driving bans on popular passes extended.
The throttling to a standing noise of 95 dB is no technical rocket science. 3P only uses the measurement configuration for the stationary noise. This is measured at half the nominal speed. Since motors get louder with increasing speed, 3P simply reduces the nominal speed, which then also reduces the speed relevant for the stationary noise measurement and correspondingly the noise development.

The lower nominal speed is achieved simply by a stop in the throttle grip. The angle of rotation is limited in such a way that half the nominal speed falls to a level at which a maximum of 95 dB is measured. In principle, the motorcycle is simply throttled in performance until the stationary noise no longer exceeds 95 dB. 3P explains to MOTORRAD that the performance losses with the previously homologated retrofit kits are between 2 and 4 kW. Where a particularly large number of dB have to be throttled away, a correspondingly large amount of power is lost. The Ducati Multistrada 1200, for example, loses from 109 to 76 kW. Since there are only mechanical stops in the throttle grip, machines with conventional throttle cables can be converted as well as models with electronically controlled gas.
The retrofit kit includes the new stops for the throttle, a chassis number-based parts certificate for registration and a new type plate for the frame. The conversion is easy and you can do it yourself. 3P currently offers corresponding retrofit kits for eight models, but already has other models in preparation. The price for the 95 dB limiter is 179.90 euros.

Conclusion
With a simple mechanical intervention in the throttle grip, the accessory supplier 3P reduces the standing noise to 95 dB suitable for Tyrol. Retrofitting does cost performance, but at around 180 euros it is not too expensive.
