Guide: Signs for cyclists: rights, obligations and prohibitions

The growing sign thickness on our streets also gives cyclists and e-bikers increasingly against puzzles. Here are ten traffic signs, which should know cyclists in any case.

In the recent past, many rigid traffic rules for cyclists became flexible and even some privileges are given to the environmentally friendly means of transport. For new rules, some new signs were created. Not all of them explain themselves. Here are ten specific cyclists and what it has with you.

1) Bicycle road (Traffic sign 244) A bicycle road is reserved alone to cycling. This avoids disabilities and hazards for cyclists. Bikers can even drive side by side here. Meanwhile, there are bicycle roads in many cities in Germany, which are also allowed to drive cars and motorcycles. An additional shield indicates this. However: Motorized road users are only tolerated here. Priority has the cycling, which is why motorists have to adapt to the maximum allowed 30 km / h.

2) Cyclists free (Additional signs 1022-10) The traffic sign "Cyclist free" Allows bikers to use pedestrian routes and bus traces, and to drive on one-way roads in the opposite direction. The latter is possible on Tempo 30 streets, which provide a clear traffic routing as well as sufficient space and protection room. If cyclists use walkways that they share with pedestrians, it is important to adapt the speed and do not hinder or endanger them.

3) E-bike free (Additional sign 1010-65) A comparatively young shield shows a bike with plug, which, however, ensures confusion. Because other than many believe this sign, neither Pedelecs nor the faster and declared S-Pedelecs declared as a small power rack. Rather, here is the small group of e-bikes, which are driven by hand gas instead of pedal power support.

4) Cyclists descend (Additional sign 1012-32) Unlike many perhaps suspect, you do not necessarily have to rise from the wheel at this shield. It is a bid sign. If about the bike path is blocked by a construction site, you can alternatively dodge as a cyclist on the parallel road. However, if only the dodge on the sidewalk is possible, you have to push the wheel, because cycling is on the sidewalk, apart from exceptions, not permitted.

5) Cycling routes subject to use (Traffic signs 237, 240, 241) The blue signs with white bike indicate that you have to use the bike path. The road is then taboo. But there are also exceptions, for example for closed cycling associations with more than 15 participants or with blocked or unaccepted bike paths.
