BMW K 1600 GT 2017: first information
The BMW K 1600 GT takes advantage of Euro4 to refine its protection and integrate the ESA Dynamic real-time damping system as standard. As an option, the luxurious BMW road-GT can couple an all-new reverse gear and the Pro shifter to its fabulous six-cylinder, while the e-Call emergency call system makes its appearance..
Launched in 2011, the and its ultra-road version set new standards in the category, largely thanks to their tasty inline six-cylinder 160 hp and 175 Nm. First good news: this engine unique on the motorcycle market current does not sacrifice any of its performance on the altar of Euro4 standards! BMW was satisfied to reprogram its injection, to add an "active" carbon filter to fight against the degassing of the tank and to modify the catalytic system at the exhaust.
Second good news: the original endowment of this excellent road-GT has increased with the adoption in series of the ESA Dynamic, the most advanced electronically controlled damping of the brand with the propeller. This system adjusts the damping laws in real time according to the state of the road and the driving mode engaged. The instrumentation dials are also redesigned and the fairing sides enlarged for the benefit of protection. The electric bubble with memory function is retained and the storage spaces are a little larger.
As an option, the 2017 K 1600 GT can now be fitted with a reverse gear, an accessory that is not superfluous in view of its 319 kg announced without suitcases (as in 2016). The – long – list of options of the new K 1600 GT also contains the Shifter Pro developed by BMW on its, which allows up and down gears without disengaging..
The e-Call arrives – optional – at BMW
Finally, the K 1600 GT 2017 unveils the optional automatic emergency call system "e-Call" unveiled in the spring (read and our). This system automatically transmits the location of the motorcycle "to the qualified BMW call center and thus triggers the chain of rescuers" after having detected a fall via various sensors, such as the inclinometer providing information on the anti-slip (see also our).
Derived from the automobile, this interesting safety device is currently only available on the German market. "Other countries will follow in a second step", promises BMW, specifying that this "e-Call" can also be triggered manually by the pilot, via a button located on the right stalk (photo above).
All these modifications and optional equipment will most likely also be integrated on the 2017 K 1600 GTL, which BMW will undoubtedly unveil at the EICMA motorcycle show in Milan (Italy) in November..
