New Kawasaki Ninja 650: first information
Kawasaki has decided to redesign its ER-6 roadster for 2017: if the small parallel twin is retained, the cycle part and the look are completely overhauled. While waiting for the Z650 – in Milan next month but very soon on MNC! -, here is the Ninja 650 which replaces the Er-6f. Discovery.
The and will disappear from the Kawasaki catalog in favor of the Z650 and Ninja 650 … At the Intermot show, Kawasaki chose to lift the veil on the road version. The roadster, which should adopt the "big bad look" of, will be unveiled next month in Milan … in the company of the sister Z900 !
Thanks to the Ninja 650, we already discover the main technical characteristics of the Z650. As for the engine first, the twin architecture and the displacement of 649 cc are retained, the Euro4 standard is respected, consumption is reduced by -6.8%, mid-revs are consolidated … and power is limited at 69 hp (72 hp for the Er-6).
At the same time, a new tubular steel frame is associated with a new aluminum swingarm via a shock absorber mounted on rods in a central position, as on all Z and ZX. According to the wise calculations of Akashi engineers, their entry level would lose 18 kg! Full facts, the Ninja 650 ABS finally weighs 193.1 kg (against 211 kg for the ER-6f). Its saddle is located at 790 mm from the ground (Vs 805 mm).
The Ninja 650 also offers for 2017 a whole new instrumentation which integrates – finally! – the gear engaged indicator light, as well as the outside temperature. Small original detail: the analog tachometer is equipped with a needle that lights up when the next gear must be engaged. Clever !
On the other hand, the bubble adjustment system is not smarter than the old one, since it requires tools. We also regret the disappearance of the practical passenger handles / travel bag. Finally, the complete fairing adopts lines close to those of the last Ninja 4-cylinder 636 and 1000. What attract more customers than the predecessor? Case to follow in our !
