Paris City Hall accused of disinformation
The Parisian branch of the FFMC publicly accuses the City of Paris of "disinformation" about the circulation of motorcycles in the bus lanes, which is prohibited while it is a primordial issue in terms of safety. Fight Club !
About the City of Paris, the Parisian branch of the French Federation of Angry Bikers (FFMC 75) does not mince words and publicly accuses the city councilors of our beautiful capital of "disinformation"…
Object of the discord: a campaign of "awareness" in which a bus lane takes the floor (yes, you had to dare, but that’s what we recognize!) To proclaim its joy to see that "more and more bikers avoid me, it’s safer for all of us"…
The FFMC 75 criticizes the Town Hall for relying on security arguments to persist in prohibiting the circulation of motorized two-wheelers in the bus lanes – where bicycles, buses, taxis, rollerblades and other scooters happily coexist -, while he "it is in fact only misplaced ideology".
"The Town Hall gives in to the extremist positions of parties and associations whose sole objective is to ban the circulation of motorized two-wheelers in the long term because they have an engine, without worrying about their safety.", continues the Parisian FFMC, denouncing the"disastrous policy"of the city in terms of road safety.
As an example, the association recalls that London has "launched an experiment concerning the circulation of motorized two-wheelers in the bus lanes from 2002 to 2005"(read) and that"as shown in the 2005 report on transport accidents, the results are there: for motorized two-wheelers, accidents in 2004 fell further by 7.5%".
The firm and clear-cut position taken by the FFMC is particularly pleasing to see in these times of soft consensus, even if the most cynical will not fail to point out that if Bertrand Delanoë, neuneu en chef at the City of Paris, also ostensibly feeds the dissatisfaction of bikers with disregard for their safety, it is perhaps also and above all to secure the support of its green fringe, cyclists in the lead, during the upcoming elections which are expected to be difficult. Because by systematically opposing, since its election, motorized two-wheelers to non-motorized two-wheelers – with the invaluable help of the Vert Denis Baupin, deputy neuneu in charge of transport -, the "new municipal team" seems to bet on the fact that the more the bikers are dissatisfied, the more the cyclists will consider themselves satisfied … A bet not only risky in terms of elections, but above all particularly aberrant in terms of road safety and traffic flow…
In the immediate future, the FFMC Paris Petite Couronne plans to organize an event on September 23: meet at 2:00 pm on the esplanade of the Château de Vincennes then head for rue Lobau, just behind the Town Hall, to "denounce the verbalization of the parking (even non-annoying) of motorized two-wheelers on the sidewalks, while the Town Hall and the Prefecture are passing the buck"(read and our).
