Start of opening at the Ministry of Transport

Requested by the FFMC in … June 2005, a meeting of a little over an hour took place yesterday afternoon between Dominique Perben, Minister of Transport, and the representatives of the FFMC Eric Thiollier, Frederic Brodziack and Nadia Bishop.
The opportunity to take stock of different subjects and to discover "a totally different speech than what we were used to until now", notes Eric Thiollier, general delegate of the FFMC.
The minister indeed assured that he did not want "bikers feel stigmatized"and that it was necessary"take into account the fact that motorized two-wheelers are developing spectacularly in our country, and especially in cities". While believing that"the increase in the number of bikers killed on the road in 2005 (+ 4.6% compared to 2004, Editor’s note) calls for the mobilization of all road safety stakeholders", he announced several lines of work that should be followed closely over the next few months.
Concerning the movement between the lines, the Minister affirmed his intention to "promote calm behaviors. We will see with the main representative institutions of the biker world whether it is possible to arrive at a charter of good practice."which would state"the criteria of responsible behavior, without going back on the highway code".
The license of one euro per day, until then inexplicably reserved for the B license, should be extended to the motorcycle license. Dominique Perben having declared himself in favor, his services will "carry out an evaluation of this measure".
A "new thematic module with slides and specific questions"could also be integrated into the driving license, in order to"develop the awareness of future motorists to sharing the road with better consideration of vulnerable users, including drivers of motorized two-wheelers", announced the minister.
Regarding access to sports equipment, Dominique Perben is committed to "support track projects that are starting to emerge in some departments". He also recalled"the financial commitment of his ministry, on par with the sports ministry, to the Open Door of the circuits operation". Emphasizing "the need to maintain a firm line"with regard to motorcycles, the minister confirmed"the increase in the proportion of radars flashing from the rear, currently around two-thirds"… In terms of infrastructure, however"committed to defending before local communities the need to better take into account, through appropriate equipment, the problem of traffic but also the parking of motorized two-wheelers".
Finally, concerning the law of January 5, 2006 on unbridling and the disproportionate sanctions to which offenders are exposed (read), Dominique Perben insisted on "dispel some fears"remembering that"these provisions did not affect the customization of motorcycles with approved equipment, as long as the legal power thresholds were respected".
"Compared to the situation which had been blocked until now, the Minister shows a desire for openness and I think he is sincere", specified at the end of the meeting the general delegate of the FFMC questioned by Moto-Net. An" opening "which it will be advisable not to let slip because even if the next electoral deadlines are perhaps not there foreigners, it will always be more constructive than an umpteenth "sticking out"…
In the meantime, the Minister is receiving today the representatives of the French Motorcycling Federation (FFM), to discuss in particular the opening of the circuits. To be continued !
