Triumph Tiger 1050 test: the three-legged tiger !
Road trail, big supermoto, sporty road? The Triumph Tiger 1050 does not care about labels that can be stuck on the back. What she likes is riding, that’s all! So we tried it on 2500 km: report.
The roar of the British tiger
It is high time for the British feline to stretch its legs: clutch, little pressure on the starter and the 3-cylinder snorts with that particular whistle. But before cutting the road, we still have to cross a good part of Paris and its charming region…
But this adventure is going admirably well! The respectable saddle height becomes a key asset between cars: you can see far and you can effectively anticipate the vagaries of traffic. The mirrors are efficient and the gearbox is remarkably smooth and precise..
Only the insufficient turning radius will penalize driving in traffic jams, but this is a recurring problem in Triumph’s 3-cylinder range….
Heading south !
Before setting off on an adventure, you can strap a bag onto the passenger seat without any problem thanks to the well-designed, rubber-coated handles. You can also use the loops provided for this purpose on the passenger footrests..
Finally, a magnetic bag takes place on the tank with completely conventional shapes. Even if suddenly, getting on board becomes really athletic !
Likewise, the possible passenger will have all the trouble in the world to climb the Tiger by its rear face: the best will still be to take advantage of a sidewalk to proceed to boarding. Once in the saddle, the passenger will be at ease with a comfortable saddle and well-placed handles.
The long monotonous ribbon of the motorway awaits us for a link of almost 700 km. This retreat will ultimately only be a formality: rather firm at first glance, the saddle of the Tiger is well designed and very comfortable over time..
The protection is not that of a GT but remains very correct. The bubble protects the bust well without generating too much noise or turbulence in the helmet.

But the men in blue are watching! We therefore wedge cautiously around 140-145 km / h cruising: the GPS then reveals a margin of error of 6-7 km / h which should leave us safe from mobile radars. At this speed, and thanks to the high level of comfort and protection, the stages can be lengthened even more when the autonomy is very correct..
The 3-cylinder purrs at around 5,500 rpm and consumes between 5.5 and 6 l / 100 km. With a 20-liter tank and especially the on-board computer which indicates quite precisely the remaining range, we refuel after 250, or even 300 km.
In addition, the attention must never be relaxed because the omnipresent torque of the engine quickly propels you at very forbidden speeds from the tiniest rotation of the right wrist! In addition, memorizing the maximum speed reached is a little fun and push-to-crime … Shh, let’s hope that the constabulary ignores this accessory because it is very easy to display more than 220 km / h !
