Kawasaki Z750R test: good or good deal ?

Roadster - Kawasaki Z750R Test: Good or Good Deal? - 900 euros more .... the big deal?

Since 2004, Kawasaki has reigned supreme in the mid-capacity roadster market with its Z750. In 2011, Les Verts declined their best seller in a more sporty version, therefore more expensive. First test during its press launch in Spain .

900 euros more …. the real deal ?

While the roads are now completely dry and clear, we can finally drive as few future customers will, namely much too fast! If from an endurance point of view the brakes are now irreproachable, they lack the bite to be qualified as truly "sporty".

Still during braking phases, the front axle still tends to stiffen and releasing the brakes invariably causes a slight change in attitude and then in trajectory. In the middle of a curve, the stability of the R is quite appreciable, but it is better not to touch the brake or accelerator controls..

Indeed, the geometry of the machine having hardly moved, its balance remains a little precarious. The technical sheet even reveals ten millimeters more travel at the rear, additional millimeters that can be found on the saddle height and ground clearance data … Slightly more leaning on the front, the new Z gains in liveliness and loses slightly in stability.

Correcting your speed or trajectory in a turn – which closes, partially wet or gravely, it doesn’t matter – requires a little practice, as the readjustments to the handlebars (accelerator, brake, steering …) influence the behavior of the motorcycle..

When exiting a curve, the Z750R sits correctly on its new swingarm, provided the surface is not too uneven. !

On bumpy roads, the rear axle of the R loses its rigor and its shock absorber does not always allow it to extricate itself from curves cleanly. Jostled by the 106 horses – yes always – of the "seven-fifty", the rear of the motorcycle can nod nonchalantly.

Experienced bikers would certainly have tried to erase these slight oscillations by closing the hydraulics a little, unfortunately the new Z only offers a rebound adjustment (in addition to that of the spring preload). Again, we expected a little better from a sporty roadster.

On the contrary, it is easier to forgive the lack of thickness of the saddle, which makes escapades of more than three hours wearing out for the rider’s buttocks. After all, users of the standard model support it perfectly, and those of the "Recent" version will surely ask for more. !

For 900 € more, what does the Z750R finally offer compared to the Z750? "Equipment with a more sporty look … the real deal !", ironically those who fully assume the fact of using their motorbike only at half its capacity – or even less – to simply go to work every day or take a leisurely stroll on weekends…

Almost as heavy, equipped with the same engine and relatively close to its lines, the new Kawa ‘will surely struggle to convince these "reasonable" bikers. This is also why the Greens will continue to offer the standard version which "expected to represent 60% of sales of both Z750 versions next year", provides Kawasaki France.

Conversely, younger bikers – in number of years or mind -, sensitive to pretty mechanical parts and eager to differentiate themselves from their 45,000 little comrades (total number of Z750s sold in France …) will surely jump on this new Z750R !

Without being lost from a feeling point of view – far from it – these "Zedists" of the first hour – a fortiori insensitive to the charms of Street Triple, Monster or other lighter and more explosive roadsters – will benefit from a better equipped motorcycle, better braking machine and more efficient on beautiful roads.

Despite suspensions quickly overwhelmed on poor surfaces and only partially adjustable, and pure identical performance, "it remains a good deal", will conclude the future buyers … See you on December 16 in Kawasaki dealerships for the presentation evening. The snow is gone, will you give it a try, just to confirm our report !
