Why Yamaha Should Produce an XSR125 in 2020
The appearance of a Yamaha XSR155 in Taiwan invites us to imagine its possible variation in 125 cc for the European motorcycle market … This hypothetical XSR125 would expand Yamaha’s offer in terms of small motorcycles, while giving it a neo-retro touch.. Prospective…
Yamaha offers only three 125 cc motorcycles in Europe: the, the and the (ex YBR125). The choice is therefore limited to two motorcycles as modern as they are expensive (4999 € for the roadster and 5299 € for the sport) and a "basic" certainly accessible (2999 €) but with a utilitarian connotation..

A fourth 125 would strengthen the Yamaha catalog and add a dent to this important price range: a powerful and fun 125 cc in the 3500 euros would appeal to both young A1 motorcycle licenses and many B (car) license holders. !
This lucky winner could take the form of a possible XSR125, a retro-looking motorcycle but of contemporary design in the tradition of and. Why this particular model? Because Yamaha Thailand has just unveiled a new XSR155 intended for the Asian market !
This 2020 novelty stems from the MT-155, from which it takes over the 155 cc water-cooled single cylinder. This displacement is cut for Asia, where the majority of motorcycles cubic between 110 and 160 cc, but boring it to 125 cc would be a simple formality for Yamaha which would then have a new model with great potential and well in the tune with the times, without spending a fortune on R&D.
A novelty in retro ?
With its deceptively vintage line, this XSR125 could show it to the new stars of the French 125 cc market: Mash, Orcal and other Bullit, whose success is largely based on the tempting prices allowed by their Chinese manufacture..
This XSR125 would stand out thanks to its technological content, starting with its variable VVA distribution which ensures optimum filling of the engine, its flattering inverted fork, its shock absorber mounted on rods and its LED lighting. So many beautiful pieces that would however inflate the note…
The reworked 10-liter tank trim, round headlight and flat saddle also demonstrate a polished presentation, while the raised handlebars promise a relaxed stance in addition to reinforcing the classic look..
The commercial reality of this XSR125 now depends on Yamaha’s desire to invest more in the 125 cc niche, which is once again a carrier in France. Confirmation – or not – at the EICMA show in Milan at the beginning of November: stay tuned !
