The big scooter signed Yamaha
Appeared in 2004, modified in 2005, the Majesty 400 is a large urban scooter, less sporty than the TMax but faster than a 250 cm3. Valuable, well finished, it appears halfway between the 125 cm3 and the big scooters of more than 500 cm3: a compromise sparing the goat and the cabbage ?
Discovery
The size of the Majesty 400 is rewarding. Almost as big as the TMax but with more curves and less elongated, it displays more urban than sporty pretensions..
The dashboard elegantly circled in chrome is standard on large scooters with two large analogue counters: speedometer on the left and tachometer on the right, separated by a central digital display displaying at the same time: partial trip, totalizer, gauge gasoline with eight sticks and engine temperature ….
The whole thing is very readable in all weathers including direct sunlight, thanks to front protection.
Under the meter, a lockable storage compartment on the left is deep enough to accommodate rain pants. The keyless right pocket is convenient for a few papers or small change.
The seat can be easily raised with a turn of the key on the ignition, revealing an enormous trunk, which can largely house two modular integral models and at least one rain suit..
The feet touch the ground for the 1.70m rider because of a wide saddle despite a relatively low height of 750mm.
Mirrors are easily adjusted and provide a good overall view at any speed.
Contact
The 4-stroke single-cylinder snorts discreetly, giving off a few vibrations when slowed down. With a turn of the right handle, the acceleration is smooth and unsurprising. Despite this impression, the Majesty 400 is at 80 km / h in less than 100 meters and without giving the impression. In fact, the first second, we hear the engine rumble without reaction, then the elastic relaxes and the Majesty 400 then increases linearly in speed. It begins to push beyond 5,000 rpm, a speed at which it is already between 80 and 90 km / h.
At slow speed, the light weight (203 kilos: identical to the TMax) and the small size of the Majesty 400 allow maneuvering without being unbalanced. It moves back with the feet easily and much more easily than its big brother Tmax in particular.
In the city
The Majesty 400 accelerates well and makes it easy to slip into the rhythm of traffic thanks to its small width. Despite this, the wind and rain protection is very good. The tight turning radius further enhances excellent maneuverability.
The suspensions are firm or even very firm, and deserve in town in any case, to make a flexibility adjustment on the two rear shock absorbers.
On the highway
The Majesty is very quickly at 130-135 km / h at just 6,000 rpm, or two thousand laps out of the red zone. This speed does not really suit him, especially in windy conditions. It offers significant wind resistance that can cause a slight sway. Do not hesitate to turn the knob to drive 20 km / h above in cruising mode and remove this regime that he does not like or then stall at 120 km / h.
Departmental
The Majesty readily finds the small roads where it can show good will in the absence of attack. It offers a healthy behavior in curves, even at high pace. The lack of engine braking on deceleration is largely compensated by the brakes as powerful as those of the TMax. There is hardly that in the rain where the pace must be reduced even if the ABS keeps watch in case of late braking a little violent.
Braking
The Majesty brakes hard, even very hard, in particular thanks to the double front disc. The cycle part takes strong braking very well, offering healthy braking, whatever the force. ABS offers added safety with excellent stability when braking, even hard.
Braking is impeccable and without parasitic reaction, even on the angle.
Duo
The saddle is wide and comfortable, even very comfortable, for both rider and passenger. The coating grips well, even in the rain and helps to stay in place, even during hard braking. The backrest for both the pilot and the passenger reinforces a good seat. The passenger handles are wide and practical.
The Majesty does not jerk. The resulting softness, reinforced by the softness of the saddle, provides Pullman comfort. Only the firm suspension makes the Majesty susceptible to road defects.
Consumption
The first stick of the six sticks of the fuel gauge does not go out until after 80 km. Each subsequent stick then vanishes every 40 km. Consumption varies between 5 liters and 5.5 liters per hundred, thus offering a maximum range varying between 250 and 300 km from the 14-liter tank..
Convenient
The Majesty offers excellent night lighting, with a wide and powerful beam.
The trunk offers a record capacity of 60 liters … enough to put two full-size cars plus two rain suits without any problem.
The Majesty has a side stand and a center stand. The side stand, very slightly off-center, is a bit scary in the event of a slope, and is then completed by the parking brake (on the left handlebars).
Conclusion
Comfortable, practical with large housings for a scooter of this capacity, the Majesty 400 rather offers a good compromise between the power and size of a large scooter. Lightweight but efficient, the Majesty 400 is nevertheless rather dedicated to the city. It will, however, take long weekends without offering the hauling capacity of a 500 or 650cc for those who want to go far and fast. But its big advantages compared to maxi-scooters having "only" more than 100 cm3 than it is its price, because at 5,990 euros (almost 400 € less than at its launch), it is 3,000 less expensive than the TMax or the Silverwing and also cheaper than the Burgman 400.
Strong points
- practical (storage)
- braking
- price
Weak points
- taken in the wind
- sensitive to coating defects
- seat height
