Sherco-Sportenduros 2020 put to the test
constant dripping wears away the stone
The great successes do not come overnight, but are mostly the result of meticulous, constant development. The off-road specialist from the south of France also applies this concept to the 2020 model year.
As before you can at S.Herco can choose between two model variants: the “Racing” models and the more expensive “Factory” models have Kayaba chassis components, the four-stroke versions also have Akrapovic exhaust systems. All models benefit from the revised deflection, which should provide more comfort with less friction. In addition, a better seal should lead to a longer service life of the bearings. The new engines are visually recognizable by the manganese-colored clutch and ignition covers and cylinder heads.
Racing models from Sherco
All “Racing” models are equipped with the Xplor spring elements from WP Suspension. The WP Preload-Adjuster is standard, i.e. a rotary knob for manually changing the preload of the fork spring on board. The 250/300 two-stroke machines also have a silencer that is 150 grams lighter.
Factory models from Sherco
The work on the “factory” models was somewhat more extensive. The 48 mm fork comes from the supplier Kayaba and has been optimized. The latest shock absorber from the Japanese company works in the rear. The aluminum-steel chainring from the previous model year has now been exchanged for a more stable steel chainring. The 250/300 cm³ two-stroke models also received the rear silencer of the RRacing variants, which was 150 grams lighter, the four-stroke exhaust systems from Akrapovic. They also have a new design and blue frame protectors.
125 cm³ and 250/300 cm³ engines
The 125 cm³ engine received a new, now adjustable exhaust control, a new piston profile for a longer service life and improved revving. The 250/300 cm³ two-stroke engine platform has most of the innovations for the 2020 model year: new air intake ports, a new membrane box, a revised engine housing in the intake area, a new clutch basket gear, a smoother clutch with improved lubrication and a lighter drive pinion should improve performance and reduce weight by around 500 grams. The weight of the 250/300 cm³ four-stroke engine has also been reduced by 400 grams thanks to lighter gears in the lubrication system and the electric starter. There is also a new shift drum for more precise gear changes.
450 cm³ and 500 cm³ engines
The large 4-stroke engines with 450 and 500 cc displacement have also been slimmed down. The thick propellants are said to have lost 600 grams due to lighter gears in the entire engine. In addition, a new timing chain ensures a quieter engine run and less friction.
Sherco-Sportenduros 2020 in the driving test
In the driving test, the machines made a good impression across the board. It is very nice that all motorcycles are equipped as standard with a mapping switch on the handlebars that can also be operated while driving. The difference between the gentle and the more aggressive mapping can be felt on all models.
The WP Xplor chassis of the racing models work well and speak comfortably over roots and stones. They are a good choice for amateur drivers. Anyone who is ambitious in competitions and on the hunt for the last tenths should feel more comfortable with the Kayaba chassis of the Factory models. The bikes are noticeably stable at high speeds, and the Kayaba parts also offer greater puncture resistance. On the four-stroke engines, the Akrapovic exhaust systems of the Factory models are noticeable with an even more revving engine characteristic and a little more power.
The prices of the 2020 models have not yet been determined, but will be announced shortly.

Company anniversary – 20 years of Sherco
The French revolution in trial motorcycles and enduro bikes is celebrating two major anniversaries this year: the first Sherco motorcycle rolled off the production line 20 years ago, and the manufacturer’s first enduro bike rolled out of the production facility in Nîmes 15 years ago. In the meantime, the blue ones have blossomed into the “fastest growing brand in the off-road industry” (original quote: Sherco). 750 dealers worldwide, including 500 in Europe, testify to the continued growth. But the racetrack also shows that the blues are making headway: Frenchman Michael Metge won a day’s stage for the first time at the last Dakar, while extreme enduro specialist Mario Roman took third place at the legendary Erzberg Rodeo in the 2019 edition.
