South America in 125 - Last episode before arrival ... -

While Buenos Aires is pointing its nose, synonymous with the end clap for this 24,000 km loop on the handlebars of Yamaha 125 YBR in South America, our two brave teammates from Bornes in America stroll in Uruguay. 20th episode: already nostalgic…

Uruguay: a country of 3 million inhabitants for 6 million head of cattle, plains as far as the eye can see and an extraordinary tranquility. From the border crossing, the main paved road is deserted. Only a few trucks going back to Brazil tell us that there is life here … Example? On one section, the road is triply widened and the signage is unknown to us: it is both our path but also an emergency landing strip … !

The wild coast is superb and we never tire of stopping in the fishing villages, always so peaceful.

This Wednesday, we took the direction of Cabio Polonio, a nature reserve protected by a huge dune and closed to vehicles. We therefore leave the motorcycles there at the entrance of the park and we embark in a 4×4 customized for this type of trip.

Cabo Polonio, a small village of 80 souls, is open to us. A true paradise on earth, a cape towards the sea, all white houses with blue shutters, a charming hippie-style place and all on the cutting edge, sea lions basking their pill in the sun … No noise, no engine, a few seagulls and the sound of the waves … Nice, no ?

We hit the road again, on two wheels this time. And gradually, the wild coast gives way to the oppressive buildings of seaside resorts like Punta del Este, very popular with Argentines, Brazilians and Uruguayans in summer, for parties and beaches. But we are in winter, so it’s dead! We find the city ugly and charmless, no interest in staying there.

We feared the highway leading us to Montevideo but in the end, the section is not overbooked although the road is not the prettiest. We arrive in the center of the capital without really realizing it. The city looks like Buenos Aires, but less pretty.

Friday afternoon, Foulques and Olivier, two French friends living in Buenos Aires, join us for the weekend. Direction Colonia de Sacramento, a town on the banks of the Rio La Plata, just on the other side of Buenos Aires. Our two friends want to rent a buggy there to follow in our footsteps in the surrounding slopes.

But the rental runs out quickly enough, the manager repatriating the buggy at the end of the day because the contract does not allow driving outside the city, on the beaches, in the mud, ditches and puddles … ‘they just wanted to follow the daily life of Bornes In America

On our side, we appreciate Colonia for its tranquility and its old historic center where it is good to stroll.

Tomorrow, Buenos Aires will point its nose and mean that 24,000 km later, the loop will be complete … Note the use of the future, which tries to move this date as far as possible … And see you next week to share with you our arrival, an analysis of our equipment (Nolan, Givi and Tucano Urbano), our personal assessment and always … good humor !
