Jorge Viegas, new FIM president until 2024
Portuguese Jorge Viegas, former rider and journalist, has just been elected president of the International Motorcycling Federation (FIM). He succeeds Venezuelan Vito Ippolito, in office for 12 years. Presentation.
Jorge Viegas, former vice-president of FIM, was elected president on Saturday at the general assembly in Andorra la Vella (Andorra). Born in Faro (Portugal) and graduated in economics and international relations, Mr. Viegas was notably president of the Promotion Commission and. He is currently a member of the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Portugal and a member of the Portuguese National Olympic Committee.

"I am truly honored to be elected to the post of President of the FIM," said Mr. Viegas. "It is a lifelong achievement to see my passion for motorcycling embodied in a function that allows me to have a positive influence on our sport. I have spent many years working with the FIM and I am in a hurry that we can shape a bright future together ".
After starting out in motocross in 1974, Mr. Viegas raced in the 250 cc Grands Prix and the 24 Hours Moto at Le Mans before devoting himself to journalism. In 1990, he founded and presided over the Portuguese Motorcycling Federation (FNM / FMP) then served as president of the Estoril circuit..

Meeting this weekend in Andorra, the delegates of the national federations also elected three new members of the FIM Management Board (the French Jacques Bolle, the Italian Giovanni Copioli and the Czech Jan Stovicek) as well as three new internal auditors ( Angelos Bavellas of CYMF, Francesco Brandi of IMF and David Francis of ACU).
