Sport – Test transformed for the GMT Open! –

Test converted for the GMT Open !

The French Open championship ended this weekend in Albi with the official coronation of Matthieu Lagrive. The final, organized by the GMT, offered bitterly contested races and the public, pampered, took full view. To be continued ?

The final of the French Open Motorcycle Sprint Championship took place on the circuit of Albi in the Tarn this Sunday. The sun was largely present, offering optimal conditions to the pilots as well as to the public. According to the organizers, this "test" event was a "great success, both in sport and in terms of the entertainment that delighted the spectators".

Despite the number of spectators slightly below expectations (3000 people all the same!), The bet seems successful for Christophe Guyot who had wanted to organize this event in collaboration with the Moto Club of Albi for "prove that there was real potential and that it was possible to satisfy both pilots and spectators"(read).

At the origin of this "great success"? "Interesting races, more and longer practice sessions, various entertainment for spectators who were also able to access the paddock and obtain numerous signings"answers the GMT collective.

An experience to repeat and perpetuate from next season! "GMT is stubborn", recalls Christophe Guyot, already giving us an appointment in 2006 in Albi for a French Open event where, once again,"the first VIP must be the spectator !".

Summary of races:

Blockbuster: supremacy of David Checa and Matthieu Lagrive

After a very regular season, Matt Lagrive arrived very motivated to win this event and bring the title back to Suzuki. He also wanted to win in front of the Yamaha GMT 94 team riders, just to take a "small revenge on the 24 hours…".

But the Spanish rider from Team GMT 94, who took part as a guest in this championship final, gave him a hard time. Because if David (MotoGP class rider, read) had to let Matthieu Lagrive slip away in the first round after a straight ahead at the chicane, he won in the second round and thus won the combined classification of the weekend: "I didn’t know the circuit and it is true that I was delayed by the late ones which were very difficult to overtake. In both runs, I shot straight at the chicane in the middle of the race. This morning Lagrive was the strongest and this afternoon, I think he obviously had a mechanical problem". In fact, Matthieu got hit on the first braking and left"degraded tread".

Matt still wins the French championship and now focuses on the World championship and of course the Bol d’Or !

125: Matthieu Gines confirms

Race 125, which took place in the scorching heat of the very start of the afternoon, was dominated from start to finish by Matthieu Gines, who had already been crowned French champion in the penultimate event. With an excellent start, he led the proceedings, gradually widening the gap on his pursuers until he finished 8 seconds ahead of Clement Dunikowski, driver of the France Vitesse Espoir team..

Supersport: dominance of David Muscat

Author of an excellent start, the Ducati official was overwhelmed in the first third of the race by his immediate pursuer Julien Enjolras (Yamaha) but, after two laps, Muscat immediately took over the lead not to let go, deepening the gap to win 4 seconds ahead. He thus confirms his domination and his seventh title of champion of France. In his wake, Julien Enjolras finished a few tenths of a second ahead of Denis Bouan (Yamaha), who made a good comeback.
