Ducati SuperSport and SuperSport S: initial information

Ducati is back in the Sport-GT category with its new SuperSport unveiled at the Intermot show in Cologne, eleven years after the withdrawal of the 900 SS. This 2017 novelty inherits the 937 cc twin-cylinder of the Hypermotard and fittings aimed at promoting comfort. And as is customary, this SuperSport is also available in an improved version "S".

The arrival of this SuperSport at Ducati is not a surprise insofar as this novelty had been during sessions of stolen photos tests, just after being discovered in a small group at World Ducati Week (read). Remember that this sporty road bike (or the reverse: to be checked on test!) Is powered by the water-cooled twin of 937 cc common to the Hypermotard range, announced for 113 hp and 96.7 Nm. Its frame is a trellis tubular steel fixed directly to the cylinder heads – thus making the engine a load-bearing element – completed by a single-sided swing arm with the most beautiful effect.

Intended to compete with the VFR800 and other S1000SX, this Ducati SuperSport adopts for this purpose a less extreme ergonomics than its Panigale cousins ​​(half-handlebars above the yoke, thicker monobloc saddle), as well as ribs to match like a wheelbase 1478 mm against 1431 on the Panigale 959. The practical aspects take the form of a screen adjustable in height in two positions, handles passages in the form of notches and an anti-skid but also of three driving modes and LCD instrumentation provided.

The capacity of the tank of only 16 liters indicates a little in this program, especially as the sporty Panigale 959 carries 17 L: find the error! As usual with Ducati, this SuperSport is available in two versions: standard with Marzocchi inverted fork and Sachs mono-shock at € 13,190 and "S" with Ohlins suspensions, shifter and seat cowl at € 14,690. In both cases, the weight in running order remains fixed at 210 kg on its motorcycles braked by Brembo radial calipers and shod in Pirelli Diablo Rosso III. Note that the S is available in red or pearly white (red only on standard), but this second color results in an inflation of its price of 200 € (14 890 €).
