RSV4 1100 Factory test: high volume operation at Aprilia !
The Italian 4-cylinder V feel decidedly cramped in a single liter: the RSV4 1100 Factory crosses this symbolic volume like the Panigale V4 like the 220 hp! Head for the sumptuous Mugello circuit (Italy) where the Journal moto du Net tested the Aprilia "Super (be) bike" and its spectacular fins this weekend… MNC test.

Big arms. The 4-cylinder V, hyper compact thanks to its 65 ° opening, goes from 999.6 to 1078 cc via a bore increased from 78 to 81 mm (stroke maintained at 52.3 mm). A new oil pump – the same as the – lubricates this block of 217 hp at 13,200 rpm and 122 Nm at 11,000 rpm at the crankshaft more effectively (201 and 115 Nm on the). |
Exchange of good practices. Aprilia masters its subject with this highly compressed super square V4 (13.6 to 1) since the has been using it since 2015. Roadster and sports car actually use the same engine, the “relaxed” version on the Tuono. The RSV4 also adopts elongated gearbox ratios on the latest reports of the Tuono. |
Magic flute. As standard, an upgrading Akrapovic titanium exhaust – catalyzed and approved – is installed which contributes to the loss of 5 kg (199 kg in running order). A small lithium-ion battery and a lightweight "590 g" electronic control unit are also installed in this slimming lens.. |
Even more ! Is 217 hp not enough for you? Aprilia technicians assured MNC that by installing a complete Akra line – not approved – and an adapted mapping, the V4 spits 10 hp more. Or almost 230 nags ! |
Dynamic framework. The RSV4 retains its perimeter frame in the form of aluminum beams. Impeccable welds, refined polished treatment: a feast for the eyes and performance, since several values can be adjusted as in Grand Prix (swingarm axis position, steering angle, engine height). |
Well-cut dimensions. The geometric values change in small steps to adapt to the 1078 cc: the wheelbase increases from 1435 to 1439 mm, the frame closes from 104.8 to 103.8 mm, the caster angle decreases from 25 to 24, 5 ° and the offset changes to increase the weight on the front. The saddle rises from 845 to 851 mm, due to the size of the engine and the 5 mm of travel added to the fork (125 mm). |
Gold pliers. Previous Brembo M50s give way to Stylema radial calipers (like the Panigale V4) around 330mm discs. The radial master cylinder perfectly supports these one-piece clamps, as pretty as they are powerful: the control is perfect, the progressiveness excellent and the efficiency formidable. Avia hoses preserve endurance. |
Spat. This is a series first: these calipers can optionally be fitted with protective carbon nozzles, in order to maintain an ideal operating temperature for the clamps and pads. Aprilia announces a cooling potential of "20%". Not really useful out of competition – even less on the road -, but it is the glory assured on the terrace of the troquet ! |
Give me wings. Other appendages from MotoGP: these famous carbon fins on the front responsible for improving stability at very high speed and reducing pitch-up during acceleration by increasing the downforce. Again, this is a series first and it throws ! |
Top gear. The RSV4 1100 Factory renews the ultra high-end suspensions of the: 43mm Ohlins NIX inverted fork with TIN anti-friction treatment and TTX shock absorber with separate cylinder. All infinitely adjustable, but by hand: no electronic damping on the Aprilia – considered less efficient against the clock – unlike the S1000RR, ZX-10R SE, CBR1000RR SP and other Panigale V4S. |
Scholarly chips. The electronics include 8-position adjustable traction control, 3-notch adjustable anti-wheeling, start assistant, bidirectional shifter (up and down), pit lane speed limiter, cruise control, Bosch ABS angle sensitive and three driving modes (Sport, Track and Race). A Magneti Marelli 7MS inertial unit manages this arsenal finely and gradually depending on the position of the motorcycle. |
Finish. The presentation of the motorcycle is refined and upscale, between its classy peripherals and its neat finish. The carbon mudguard and fins and impressive openwork and polished swingarm reinforce its status as a lovingly crafted racing beast.. |
Entry level. The RSV4 RR above retains the 999.6 cc engine for competition homologation and constitutes an entry level at € 16,999, or 6,000 euros less than the 1100 Factory. For 2019, the decoration is evolving on this already very powerful motorcycle despite equipment a notch below: Sachs suspensions, cast and non-forged rims, no carbon parts, etc.. |
