SuperSport 950 and Panigale V4 SP in episode III of the Ducati 2021 news
Faithful to the appointment, Ducati broadcast last night the third episode of its web series on its 2021 novelties. The pitch? The Italians revise the aesthetics and electronics of the SuperSport 950 and launch a new Panigale V4 SP (Euro5 like the others now). Magneto Sergio !
Previously, in the Ducati Web series: the Multistrada left its V2 for a V4 in its "Granturismo" configuration, the XDiavel remains faithful to the Testastretta DVT 1262 but upgrades it to the Euro5 standard, the Scrambler 800 welcomes a new member called Nightshift…
In this third episode, the Italians stage two sporty models: on the one hand the new generation of SuperSport 950 designed above all for the road, on the other the new Panigale V4 SP which relaunches the famous "Sport Production" series. "from Bologna.

"The SuperSport 950 is the ideal motorcycle for bringing sporty driving into everyday life, without having to compromise, especially in terms of comfort," recalls Ducati. Appeared in the Ducati 2017 catalog, the "all-rounder" takes advantage of the changeover to Euro5 to get a little makeover, precisely.
"The aesthetic link between SuperSport 950 and Panigale V4 is now even stronger", proudly summarize the Italians … and their French colleague Julien Clement, at the origin of these two sumptuous machines, but also of the Scrambler 800 series. cock-a-doodle Doo !
With its new LED headlight glued to the air intakes and framed by fins, its more enveloping fairing and its double side extractors, the road sportswoman is effectively, copiously and skillfully inspired by the lines of the Superbike released a year later..
The SuperSport also benefits from the technological advances of its pistard siblings by integrating the 6-axis inertial unit (Bosch) which makes it possible to refine the interventions of the ABS (in bends in particular), the traction control and its anti-wheeling function. The Ducati also has a shifter.
The adjustment of electronic parameters, as well as driving modes (Sport, Touring, Urban) is done through the menu of the new 4.3 ” fully TFT screen with graphics and an interface inspired by those of the Panigale family , underline the Italians who have also redesigned the saddle "to maximize the comfort of the pilot thanks to greater handling" … better "mobility" in fact !
Updated to meet the Euro5 standard, the 937 cc L-twin delivers 80% of its max torque from 3,500 rpm, "and as revs increase the torque value increases linearly, peaking from 93 Nm at 6500 rpm, specify the Bologna engine manufacturers. Then 90% of the torque is maintained up to 9000 rpm, maximum power speed (110 hp … or 95 hp for a possible A2 clamping ).
Unchanged from the chassis point of view, the SuperSport 950 will still be offered in two versions in Ducati dealerships from February 2021: the standard necessarily painted in red and offered at 13,990 euros, the "S" equipped with Ohlins suspensions ( and seat cowl) which will be displayed at 15,690 euros in red and 200 euros more expensive in white.
A Ducati sports car for the road or for the circuit ?
For 2021 – but available in stores from December 2020 to be placed under the next tree …-, the Panigale V4 "short" and S will comply with the new Euro5 standard but will not go back on their main characteristics: "the weight , maximum power and torque will be unchanged ", clamen Ducati !
The Panigale V4 takes advantage of this update to download the latest generation of even more predictive "Ducati Traction Control" (DTC Evo 3) and receives a "Race Riding Mode" with two distinct maps, "to define the best set-up in depending on the track and his riding style ". Leek or pro ?!
The seasoned pilots – and fortunate ones – will be quite exhilarated by the sliders when they learn of the arrival of a fifth Panigale V4: between the standard and the S previously mentioned on one side, and the V4 R and the Superleggera V4 of the other, MS will soon be placed !
Expected next March in the red dealerships, this new "top" model "marks the return of the historic acronym" SP "(Sport Production)", rejoices Ducati. Billed 37,000 euros against "only" 23,590 euros for the base V4, the SP is however not more powerful (214 hp), not more torque (124 Nm) and not much lighter (173 kg dry Vs 175 ).
However, weight is essentially saved in two critical places: "the valuable carbon split 5 spoke rims (are) 1.4 kg lighter than forged aluminum ones". Hence a "motorcycle much more agile and lighter in the changes of direction", we beg to believe Alessandro Valia, Ducati test rider.
On this new Panigale V4 SP, the 4-cylinder V "Desmosedici Stradale" is fitted with a dry clutch, "which allows it to be even more efficient on the track and is coupled to a final transmission to a chain with a pitch of 5.20, narrower and therefore lighter than that fitted to the Panigale V4 S ", details Ducati.
Third element taken from the exclusive Superleggera V4: the Brembo "Stylema R" calipers controlled by a radial "MCS" master cylinder should satisfy the – very – big brakemen thanks to "a great braking power, as well as an exceptional consistency. performs".
The "SP" should also appeal to – very – large "anglers since the Rizoma anodized aluminum footrests" are fully adjustable to suit the ergonomics of each rider and maximize ground clearance for track use ".
To distinguish itself from its sisters, the latest Panigale is adorned with a dress "inspired by that used during winter testing by the official MotoGP and Superbike teams, reworked by the Ducati Style Center" which highlights the tank in aluminum, its front mudguard and carbon fins. Each copy will have its own number "engraved on the top tee machined in the mass". "Mamma mia", the class !
Finally, the Panigale V4 SP will have a Racing kit for the track with machined aluminum plugs – to dress the fixings of the mirrors removed -, kit for the removal of the plate holder, open clutch cover (gling-gling replica! ) and Ducati data acquisition with GPS module. Nothing, however, that does not raise the maximum power … No "pot" !?
