In the past few years there has been one constant in the Superbike World Championship: Kawasaki driver Jonathan Rea is driving away from everyone and the other manufacturers and drivers are trying by all means to reduce the gap to the Northern Irish – but so far with little success. Rea was able to secure the title in the Superbike World Championship five times in a row. The last driver to win the world title before Rea was Sylvain Guintoli in 2014. In the new season, Jonathan Rea’s competitors want to start the next attempt and prevent the Northern Irishman from winning the sixth title, if there is still driving at all. At least the first race weekend in Australia on February 28, 2020 could take place regularly and so Chaz Davies and Michael van der Mark had & Co. there the opportunity to challenge Rea again. Indeed, it seemed like there could be more variety this season. In the first race in Australia Toprak Razgatlioglu was able to clinch victory. Alex Lowes and Scott Redding followed in second and third place. And Jonathan Rea also had to admit defeat in the second race. The reigning world champion landed in second place. Teammate Alex Lowes took the win. Due to the corona virus, the Superbike World Championship came to a standstill after the first race.
