Superbike World Championship 2021: Race calendar updated
Superbike World Championship 2021
Again shifts in the racing calendar
The 2020 Superbike World Cup was badly affected by the corona pandemic. Covid-19 also plays a role in planning for 2021. Now there are more shifts. The Czech Republic has been added to the calendar, Phillip Island has been dropped for good.

Gregorio Lavilla, Executive Director of the FIM Superbike World Championship, outlined the first key data for the upcoming Superbike World Championship in early November 2020. This is also clearly influenced by the corona pandemic. One learned from the Corona season 2020. At the end of November, the FIM published its first provisional racing calendar. In February 2021, the organizers will announce the first postponements. Further adjustments will follow in March and now in April.
The season starts in May in Aragon
WSBK
The race in Assen (Netherlands) from April 23-25, originally planned as the start of the season, was postponed to July 23-25, as the local authorities have banned major events until June 1, 2021. The new season opener should take place from May 7th to 9th in Estoril in Portugal. But even this plan is already wasted. After the changes made in March, the Superbike season starts from May 21st to May 23rd in Aragon (Spain). The Estoril Round in Portugal has now been postponed to May 28-30.
Phillip Island out – must in
For a long time it was also clear that the race in Australia on Phillip Island would move to the end of the year. This gives you more time to check the situation in the country. A season opener in February in Australia would not be justifiable. Now it is clear. Phillip Island will be completely eliminated from the Superbike racing calendar for 2021. A return to the legendary route is not planned until 2022.
A run in the Czech Republic now compensates for the Australian failure. Autodrom Most will make its debut on the WorldSBK calendar in 2021 after signing a five-year contract. The sixth event of the 2021 season will take place on the Czech racetrack from August 6th to 8th.
“We look forward to welcoming the Autodrom Most to our calendar for the next five seasons. Today’s announcement that WorldSBK will return to the Czech Republic for the first time since 2018 reflects the championship’s continued popularity with Czech fans. With Czech teams and drivers in the paddock, this is a great opportunity to showcase the Czech Republic on a World Championship stage and I trust that Autodrom Most will host exciting motorsport events in the future. As for Australia, everyone involved decided that analyzing the recent changes across all major motorsport events and given the current uncertainty surrounding the pandemic, the best solution was to postpone the lap to our usual start of the season in 2022. We look forward to returning there in 2022 with the Australian event, a key event in the championship”, explains Gregorio Lavilla, Executive Director of WorldSBK.
Navarre new in the calendar
The European events with which the 2021 season starts are scheduled from May to the first week of October. The race in Argentina is scheduled from October 15th to 17th. Indonesia could rise from November 12-14. There is still no date for Australia. Instead, a race in Navarre, Spain, has been added to the calendar. The run is scheduled for August 20-22.

Long lap penalty comes
The Superbike World Championship takes over the long lap penalty from MotoGP, where drivers have to drive a longer lap over a separate section of the route and thus receive a time penalty, so to speak. However, since not all race tracks in the calendar offer a corresponding slope layout, this penalty will not apply to all races.
