Ducati Hypermotard 796: damn sexy, the little sister !
Less intimidating than its 1100 cc elder, the Ducati Hypermotard 796 offers almost as much for almost € 3,000 less: a devilishly tempting program that Site put to the test in an exciting summer test ! Test.
Toy for big boys
Unlike the 1100, which is intimidating with its large torque and more or less voluntary kicks, the Hypermotard 796 is much more docile and is a natural extension of the pilot’s every whim. The alert motor readily accommodates all uses, from the wisest to the most daring…
The chassis is also natural and intuitive. In addition, the high seat and the upright posture of the pilot make it possible to anticipate the vagaries of traffic. In fact, we logically find the advantages of Supermotard machines in town … but also the push-to-crime side !
Even if our managers are doing everything to change this, it is difficult not to consider the road as a great playground on the handlebars of this Hypermotard 796! However, the little Ducati obviously invites more arson on small roads than speeding on the motorway, even if it grabs a respectable – and exhausting! – 200 km / h odometer.
Indeed, the very basic protection of the pilot and the rather mediocre autonomy (160 km before reserve) obviously do not make the Italian a great traveler. So much the better: cap the departmental !
50% roadster + 50% supermot ’= 100% fun
Attacking on small roads, the Hypermotard 796 shows a good consistency between its voluntary engine and its agile chassis. All these elements, from sporty roadsters associated with a Supermotard-style position, give this bike great efficiency..
We take great pleasure in whipping it, or even manhandling it, because we quickly realize that the machine is easier to bring to the limits than its big sister. This is because the additional 29.4 Nm of torque of the 1100 cc is proving to be much more difficult for less experienced bikers to carry! In short, whether you take your leg out like Supermot ‘, whether you swing your hips like a roadster or even stay straight, the 796 goes fast and well !
Wiser, or even more consensual for some, the 803 cc twin does not, however, trigger the same avalanche of sensations felt when riding the 1100 cc. Less sensational, because quite linear, the revs of the 796 want to be more accessible and usable, at the risk of leaving the "big hearts" hungry….
Too bad, because the twin is perhaps less demonstrative than its predecessor, but it responds to all speeds: in the winding, there is plenty to titillate people much bigger than him, especially as the liveliness of the part-cycle encourages the gaudriole !
