Do tourers always have to be expensive and overweight? They don’t have to, and Suzuki has been proving this since 2010 with a fully wired bandit, which is not allowed to be called that. If you are looking for a lot of touring motorcycles with an emphasis on engines, the Suzuki GSX 1250 FA is the right carefree purchase.

The best ideas are often born out of necessity: What to do when all the other competitors have a real big bike tourer in their program, except you yourself? And if there is not enough time and resources for a new development? Simply reach into the in-house construction kit and combine them as cleverly as possible. The Suzuki GSX 1250 FA presented in 2010 was created in a similar way. The basis was the Bandit 1250, the most successful Suzuki model at the time. Their famous motor and the entire chassis, i.e. the frame with aluminum swingarm, spring elements and wheels, were given new packaging. New? Not really, because the shell was already used as a camisole for the GSX 650 F from 2008, but was widened a little for the 1250 use and equipped with a GSX-R-style headlight.

Really new to the Suzuki GSX 1250 FA actually only the larger cooler and the second fan, which is switched on separately at higher temperatures. The organ donation operation was very successful, because the result was a rock-solid tourer, which, like all big bandits, is not one of the handiest cornering machines, but its bullet-proof engine (which in practice always delivers more than the official 98 hp) can be reason enough on its own to get excited about this travel steamer. Much more torque is not really possible, the four-in-line lifts over 100 Nm from 2000 rpm and already reaches its lush maximum at 3700 rpm. To ask? Yes: why is the balancing machine not called Bandit 1250 F? Because Suzuki sports tourers have always had the GSX in their model name.

Reaching into the construction kit had real advantages, because the Suzuki technicians found a lot of well-engineered and reliable parts – the Suzuki GSX 1250 FA simply does not have typical quirks. To make matters worse, GSX first-time buyers often belong to the frequent rider group, but are guaranteed not to the heater group and, as seasoned motorcyclists, do not have a maintenance or repair backlog.
If at all, there can be problems with the electrical system: water and road salt may find their way into the plug contacts, which are not optimally protected against moisture everywhere. So check out all of the ads and consumers. During the tour, you should also pay increased attention to the most popular conversion measures: sports exhaust systems, carriers and cases from the accessories as well as vario touring windows increase the fun with the Suzuki GSX 1250 FA. But only if the assembly was carried out professionally.

Fully equipped tourers do not necessarily belong to the “fast movers” that the walk-in customers take with them in passing. The Suzuki GSX 1250 FA is no exception: As a used one, it stands flat with its tires until a connoisseur arrives who wants exactly this model (which is unfortunately completely unknown to many motorcyclists). And that can take a while, especially with private sellers, which should accommodate buyers in terms of price negotiations.
Motorcycle dealers usually have fewer problems with the Suzuki GSX 1250 FA – if the purchase price is right. They appreciate the reliability of the fat guys and can switch one or the other bandit prospect to the “fully disguised bandit”. With younger models, however, the desired prices are often dangerously close to the price of a new machine. And according to the list, it is already really cheap at 10,420 euros, but is often undercut in practice. Very fresh demonstration vehicles and even daily registrations with zero kilometers – of which there are surprisingly many on the Internet – are offered for less than 9,000, in some cases even for less than 8,000 euros, which does not exactly increase the chances for young used vehicles.
