Did Suzuki make sports motorcycles before 1985, when the GSX-R 750 and RG 500 Gamma were released? ?
If the question may seem absurd, it is not so easy to cite the models which preceded these two myths. Yet Suzuki was absolutely not absent from the market and offered machines completely at the level of the competition.. Thus in 1983, the firm of Hamamatsu presented its sports car of the moment, code name: GSX 750 ES and its variant with full fairing GSX 750 EF marketed the following year..
This bike is the replica of the Kawasaki GPZ 750 and Honda VF 750 F. Like its competitors, its chassis, its shock absorbers, its brakes and its anti-dive system are derived from the competition.
However, the bike is rather accessible. And if it does not have the road qualities of a Kawa GPZ, it offers a rather relaxed driving position, a welcoming saddle and unparalleled handling as well as a feeling of lightness, thanks to its 16-inch front wheel..
The engine is extraordinarily smooth and pushes hard but without violence. It takes 10,500 revolutions / min without forcing, well helped by a precise and well-staged gearbox. And if this GSX-ES is exceeded in pure power by the VF 750 F, its engine is a good compromise between a Honda supersport and a road-sport Kawasaki..
On the circuit, it is very demonstrative and pleasant, but systematically outstripped by the Honda VF 750 F thanks to its few more horses, the torque of its V4 and more biting braking..
On the road, the Suzuki chassis shines, but the protection denotes. The fork crown fairing does not protect much and it is not the lower fairing of the EF version that helps much. Especially since this bike is capable of high performance. If it is able to take 216 km / h in peak, the protection is no longer effective, past 160 stopwatch.
The duo, despite a soft saddle, is served by the lack of passenger grab handle. The latter having only a single strap to hold.
This Suzuki, now forgotten, was a worthy predecessor of the GSX-R and even accompanied it until 1987 in the range of the Japanese manufacturer. Unfortunately, she only had 2 years to show her worth before the arrival of her troublemaker sister. Insufficient, to settle permanently in the minds of bikers.
