At Motoplanete, we are not used to talking about concept-bikes, except with rare exceptions (future marketing, crazy machine, extraterrestrial machine …). But for the Stratosphere, I couldn’t miss it.
This Suzuki from another time cannot leave anyone indifferent. nostalgics and enthusiasts steeped in motorcycle culture will immediately recognize in the design an emblematic machine from the early 1980s: the Katana. Like her, the Stratosphere seems (is?) Too far ahead of its time. Its remarkably fluid lines push it into the 2050 era. As it approaches, the hand would gladly glide a caress from the end of the saddle to the tapered indicators. From the front, let’s not be afraid … but it is better to be used to visiting the inside of a bulb radio set. Just behind, it’s high-tech on the dashboard, like Suzuki’s prototypes, like the B-King.
What will make us all crack is the choice of the engine chosen. The Stratosphere returns to a genre that is unfortunately distributed at homeopathic doses: the 6-cylinder in-line. The most representative models of this architecture were the Honda CBX 1000 and Kawasaki Z 1300; Their owners have sparkling eyes as they tell you their stories on their handlebars. This 1100cc multicylinder is incredibly compact, so much so that you would see it in a sports car. With modern technology, such a mill would offer extraordinary flexibility and revving revs to give you goosebumps on every gear..
Will it be a demonstration to make us dream without a future like with the B-King? Or can we see it as a new concept of machines for the end of the decade? Come on, Mz Suzuki, get us that 6 cylinder.
