In the big battle of customs dragsters, Suzuki was rather discreet. The manufacturer had certainly lined up a 1600 Marauder in the past, more to have his big custom too than to face the competing armada..
Today, Suzuki faces up and in turn offers its “big-twin-custom-which-tear-off-the-road”. The M 1800 R (that’s no kidding) rubs up against the Kawasaki VN 2000, Yamaha 1700 Road Star Warrior and Honda 1800 VTX. Now he’s up against the Harley 1250 Muscle or the Triumph Rocket III Roadster, with some peculiarities that grab our attention. During the days of Japanese power cruisers, the 1783cc twin was not the biggest of the bunch, but it was the most powerful. No less than 120 horses jostle at the exit of the vilo! With that, the concept of the power-cruiser reached a new level. This twin-cylinder with 4 valves per cylinder, injection with double butterfly type GSX-R 1000 does not follow the same logic of power development as its adversaries. With a massive 112mm bore (the biggest on a production bike) for a reduced stroke of 90.5mm, engine manufacturers clearly favored power over torque. He is the last of the band to brandish the Japanese cavalry in this niche; the others have given up and the Suzuki is counting on its beautiful remains and its threatening plastic to face the English and the American.
The M 1800 R adopts a rather futuristic line, quite far from the immobility of this category and its timeless aesthetic canons. The Suzuki power-cruiser is truly the most stylistically advanced custom (especially thanks to its fork crown), although its chassis, its chassis values and its enormous 240mm tire are in the current standard of the machines of this guy. The front axle does not hear it that way, and outrageously displays its inverted fork and radial brake calipers (Suzuki inaugurates this type of binding on a custom).
Change of scenery guaranteed on the dashboard. Divided into 2 parts, it consists of a digital tachometer VTR SP-1 style placed in front of the handlebars; and an analog counter, fixed on the tank, graduated up to … 240 km / h !!!
